Has anyone applied for ScribeAmerica positions?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
it's really not a big deal as long as you can type above 60 WPM. nothing to stress about in the application.

Things might be different nowadays due to corona but in general do you think it's relatively easy to get the position? I live in a big city.

Normally, yes, very easy. During this time, I am actually surprised they would be hiring. I have heard many scribe positions have been canceled due to safety concerns.

I live in a big city too and it was very easy to get a position with scribe America. As others have said, many programs have been suspended until further notice. Some urgent care/ER locations remain open, though I do not know if they are offering those positions to new applicants.

Current outpatient Chief Scribe here. Something to keep in mind is that we often leave our applications open even when we're not necessarily hiring. Right now, my sites are dealing with a lot of clinic closures, and many of our providers who are working are not in need of scribes. Administration has basically told us that we're not allowed to hire anyone else, even if we think we will eventually need them, due to the fact that several locations in the region have displaced scribes who would be interested in relocating if needed. You may hear back from the company eventually, but they've thinned out the administration recently and furloughed A LOT of employees in the past several weeks including the people in charge of hiring, expansions, etc. It could realistically be months before you hear anything.

All of that being said, feel free to DM me with any questions. I've spent a ton of time in both ED and outpatient, and I might be a little more helpful than people who haven't been around in a while since I've taken on a lot of the hiring for my own site. At this point, I have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for in a new hire.

It's an employee's market for corporate scribing jobs. I've been utterly unimpressed with the company as a whole. One location or another is always hiring because they can't keep scribes around for such low pay (despite making everyone sign a contract committing 2,000 hours to the company). In fact it's the lowest paying job I've had since 2008 when I worked at a hot dog stand. Don't stress yourself out. If you're a C- student in school the job is cake walk. Like others have said, the most important thing is being able to type 60+ wpm. The more the better. I would recommend looking for medical assisting jobs if you take clinical hours seriously but if you need to get your foot in the door scribing does the trick.

This is actually very true. Rarely ever would someone's application or essay sway my need to hire them in a constant efflux of scribes making less than 25k/year full-time. I've even hired scribes who failed their entry tests multiple times and simply remediated their knowledge once they were hired. The application isn't anything more than a formality. They will hire anyone with quick fingers and a professional demeanor.

Chief Scribe in Northern CA. To my knowledge the entire company has stopped all hiring and training. I have been under the impression that this was occurring company wide, although it could just be regionally. Scribe America can’t bill for those hours and they’re struggling right now. WHEN things get back to some semblance of normalcy I expect there will be a big hiring surge. I’m fairly laid back when hiring people. Make sure your resume looks good and you have some other common premed EC’s in there; I don’t really care about unique experiences, just that you’re hard working and competent.
