I just called Wayne State University SOM today to check to make sure all my stuff had gotten there, and the lady was nice enuf to inform me that my app had been reviewed and placed on hold-maybe they'll consider me after they've exhausted all their "better options"? Surprised me because my stats are right at their level-but I heard they don't like community college credits (rumor). Did I have to call in order to find this out, or were they planning on telling me I wonder.

Has this happened to anyone else?

she actually said, "until they have exhausted better options"...?!?... that seems kind of harsh... i think if your mcat supports your gpa, they don't mind CC credits. I come from a smaller, not-so-well known state school and I thought they might look down on me because of it, but my interviewer specifically said that my school must have a good program because my MCAT validates my gpa... I am sure you will hear back soon.

When I was there, everyone who was being interviewed had submitted their app in june- specifcally, the last week of june! and 1/4 of the people were early decision. So I really think it is early... don't worry! 🙂

Hey funstuff-thanks for responding. No, they didn't really say "better options" that was just my assumption. I just don't understand why else they would hold my application to be possibly considered for interview later in the year -and I wonder if this is typical for applicants who are just average by their admission standards.

Well, when did you submit your AMCAS? I got the impression that most of the people interviewing with me had average MCATs, GPAs. The thing we all had in common was that we all (8-10 people or so) all turned in our AMCAS the last week of June.

The fact that you got a secondary is a good sign at Wayne, so I wouldn't be completely discouraged. A ton of people get rejected before the secondary stage. Also, it is still very early, of all the people from undergrad that I know who go to Wayne, I was the only one who had an interview at this point last year. I would just keep calling every couple weeks and seeing what the deal is. Don't give up yet.
