Hey,

So i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of someone using their first EM1 year (i'm not referring to a prelim year in a 4 yr EM residency, but the actual first EM1 year) as a prelim year to another speciality, for instance: anesthesia, radiology, derm, or optho? Since it's not techinically a year of medicine or surgery, i'm wondering if it has ever flown w/ residency programs. Any info?

One of our interns last year completed a PGY1 year and then jumped ship to anesthesia, started as a PGY-2 there, so it indeed did count for his internship. Atleast at USF.

Q

It should work as a prelim year as it does generally satisfy state level legal requirements in those states that require one year of post graduate medical training to receive a license...

Perhaps BKN could elaborate?
