Has anyone got accepted their first time of applying?

And of course people have gotten into dental school the first time applying.

GL 👍

Majority gets in first time.

first timer here too. check out my predents profile if you're curious, but my stats weren't anything special IMO.

everyone focuses on GPA and DAT scores (which is extremely important granted), but make sure you have good extracurriculars as well to set you apart (undergrad dental club, volunteer at soup kitchens, mentor youth, get shadowing in, go on mission trips, participate in intramurals, etc)

Call the schools that have rejected you in the past and see what areas were weaker than they'd like and boost those areas (if possible)

my bad, this is your first time (so you've never been rejected. my apologies for the unintentional insult)

no offense but this isn't a very smart question. Maybe I misunderstood it. "Has anyone ever been accepted their first time applying?" I don't think I did.

Yea! you heard right ! i'm really glad whoever said that did, b/c you just proved something that really TICKS me! no offense to you , but there are so many people applying to dental school and are getting in, that have no business in dental school ! it ticks me off that i have to compete with those of you with no true desire to be a dentist! hopefully i m not the only person alive who REALly wants to be a dentist for the sake of being a dentist! No one in my family is making me go to professional school and i didnt choose dentistry b/c i think it is easier than medical school!! I know this will make many of you mad because this probally describes you. if so I hope u wake up and realize that dentistry is not for you ! they actually make you work in dental school!! Apply to Pharmacy!! they make a lot more money and most dentist end up committing suicide anyway!!

Ummmm.... 😕

I know I really want to be a dentist. I think many others here really want to be dentists. All of my pre-dent friends really want to be dentists.

I applied as a Junior to 2 schools, so although in theory this isn't really my first time around, it is my "normal" 1st cycle. I applied early (jr year) just to my dream schools and was waitlisted at both after interviews.

Now during my Sr application cycle you can find my stats on predents.com if you look under Colorado, although my profile is not anywhere near complete with the things other then GPA/DAT. I didn't include all the schools I applied to, nor the interviews etc. I was a D1 NCAA Athlete, and had a ton of shadow hours (500+) in a dental office. PM me if you need advice, I'd be more then happy to help.

OP: like previous posters have said, higher GPA, DAT, etc. increases the likelihood of getting accepted. if you are low in one aspect, make sure that you compensate in another. I wanted to apply during my junior year but I hadn't prepared for the DAT and I didn't have LOR writers set up... so I spent a year fixing loose ends and sent in my application during my senior year. I went through all the checklists on applying to dental school, and didn't send in my application until I felt comfortable with it.

doc3232: how is the question ambiguous?

It's not my fault you hate your father... hahahaha kidding kidding

I am just saying it is sad if he didn't know that at least 1 person got in their first time applying considering that the majority of applicants do. As for that other guy, strep, you misunderstood him.

The op question changed.

The op question changed.

It's not even a question anymore!🙄

OP, if your application is good and you apply early, I don't see why you wouldn't get in. People usually don't get in on their first try because they apply very late, or pick the wrong schools. Do your research and you'll be fine. Good luck!

ive been asked before why i dont post much on this forum, an ill say it again. I dont trust 95% of the information given out on here. Alot of it is insanly false. I feel many of you are willing to listen to some disgruntled student. OMG i didnt get in my first time, its the end of the world!!! No its not do some postbac plain an freakin simple an reapply.

wow.

of course people get in their first time around (I'm still hoping....)

but am I confused.. maybe I read incorrect stats somewhere, or am misinterpreting them...

aren't there like 12000 applicants and 4,500 seats? wouldn't that mean the majority are NOT getting in their first time around? or are the majority of people not getting in already reapplicants? just wanted to get some clarity on this...

Majority of ALL applicants (those who submit the AADSAS application) DON'T get in every year, which is the 4500 out of 12000 unique appliers. As for first year applying, that's a rather tough statsitic given that the pool of applicants here are not representative of the whole pool overall. But I would say that the majority here on this forum seem to get in their first year applying.

I applied after I graduated. Somehow, I felt like applying in my junior year I would probably waste money and not get accepted anywhere. It wasn't a waste of a year- I didn't have to miss classes during senior year and I enjoyed time off from school to work a bit, which was nice.

Your post falls within the 95% category, right?

Somebody got rejected/will get rejected to D school. Get over your insecurities and get accepted for yourself. Lower standards and less applicants means more dentists with poor skills.

Majority gets in first time.

According to the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools (new one, for fall 2009), "Of the 12,010 individual who applied for admission, 38% were enrolled." So I'm going to say that most people do NOT get into dental school in their first try. (Although, I'm sure the number aren't totally accurate because it includes people who might have withdrawn from the cycle and It doesnt take into account that people apply to wrong schools etc.)
