My husband's original score report got lost and we just got another one, but it has no explanation of the scores. I remember there is such a thing as a partial failure. His result does not say partial fail, it just says FAIL.

His scores.
Avg: 76

Individual scores are all above 75 except biochemistry is 67. Does this mean that since his average score is 76, he only has to retake biochemistry.

Please help!!! Thanks!!!

I would suggest that your husband retake all of the parts again in December. 76 is a pass but if you are applying to the advanced standing programs or any other advanced specialty programs, he wouldn't stand a chance. I guess retaking only the failed section (below 75) is an easy way out, but the low score will always haunt him. With a very supportive wife, I would highly recommend your husband to retake it (with a fresh frame of mind) and get a better score. Good luck.

He cant re-take all the subjects at the same time until he clears the biochem part first.

Yes, that's exactly what it means. BUT if he's planning on applying to schools with this score, he would have a hard time, unless the rest of the application looks extremely good.

And I also think, he is only given the biochem chance twice. If he fails biochem twice, he's done for good and will have to start all over again.

IDEA: Ok, here's an idea for you, in case you can afford it. If you guys leave near a college, find some biochem/phisiology student (pre-med, pre-dental, etc) and offer him to coach your husband for a little while. I don't know how common is this practice in the US, but you might as well give a try. 🙂

Luck!

Seriously???? I thought one could opt to take the entire exam again at anytime, as long as it's the ENTIRE test, not parts of it.

Uhmm....

Not if u failed in any .

u are allowed to retake the entire exam even if u failed only in one part.
and in this case it is better to reatake the complete part 1.

I doubt it.

Complete Retesting

A candidate may retake the entire Part I battery of examinations subject to the following conditions.

1. If the candidate previously passed Part I , only the complete Part may be retaken. Re-examination in individual subjects is not permitted in this case. Candidates should note that the latest set of scores is reported. Thus a candidate who performs poorly on the retake could jeopardize his or her passing status.

2. If a candidate's average score on the Part is below 75 or if the candidate exhausts partial credit, the candidate is recorded as a complete failure on the Part and must retake the entire Part.
I've sent a mail to NDB hopefully they reply back to me.

his other 3 scores must have been pretty good. if he passes biochem with a good score it will increase his average - so its not so bad!

Thanks everyone!

If he does well on biochem next time, will it up the avg?

KatieJune,
Why dont you ask your husband to go through these forums, it will give him an idea of what his avg's should be to be accepted in a good school.

I am positive about him being able to take the comlpete part 1. one of my friend's failed a part last dec and she took the complete part 1 this july. she was allowed to take it.

The increase of the average score depends on how well he does on the individual part. You can calculate that yourself. Just add the 4 individual scores and divide it by 4. So, add the previous passed 3 scores, and start asigning random possible scores to the biochem part, and calculate it. You'll get the idea of how much he needs to get at least an 80, which is the least he should aim for. Does this makes any sense to you?. Hope so. 🙂

Hi,
I am in a bind. I got my Part I scores today. I got mid 80's on all subjects except 74 in one (which is a FAIL!!).

It says on my report: Partial Failure: Eligible for Partial Testing"

Can I take just that one section in computer format at anytime I want?

Do they take the higher score, average, or just give me a passing 75 no matter what I get?

Please someone who knows answer. I would rather just retake this section instead of the whole thing again, at least for this year.

i am 101%sure,if anyone is failing in one subject,he/she can retake all the subjects.and if that person doesnt want to retake all, ofcourse he is eligible to retake that failing subject only.

Thank you.

If I retake that failing subject only, how is my % calculated for that subject.

For example, if I get 74% in biochem the first time and 80% the retake time, do I get 80% or do I get the avg 77% or something else?
