Has anyone had their suit lost/damaged right before an interview?

Oh no! Maybe look to see if there's a rental place or department store open if you can swing it financially?

This happened to my husband, who walked into a Formal Wear Shop and rented a tuxedo. For some reason he felt compelled to apologize for being overdressed.
I didn't know you were a woman, let alone married. Anyways, what a power move to go in dressed in a tux. Big dick energy if I've ever seen it

I am sure you could call the admissions office and warn them, should your luggage be lost for instance. For those that have had that experience before, how understanding are they of that situation? If you only have casual clothes and no time to go to a store, will you get dinged?

Always worried they may lose it when a plane decides to check my carry on because of space issues. Happened once and now I am paranoid

It happens. Wear whatever you have, and explain to the Admissions dean and their staff.

We'd cut you slack.
What would you do if someone when in there and just told you they couldn't afford a suit (assuming you corroborated it with AMCAS)

If the airline does lose our luggage with the suit inside, should we get some type of letter from an airline representative at the arrival airport or some other kind of evidence (lost baggage slip) from the airline?

If so, what did you do?
Yes, my luggage was lost on my flight (got in at 9PM) and had interview early next morning. They said my luggage would arrive on a later flight that same night and the airline would delivery it to me (they said at 2AM the morning of my interview). That didn't happen. Went to interview in what I wore on the plane! (jeans, sneakers, blazer). Got accepted! Didn't matriculate there, though.

I thought about going out and buying new clothes but it was late and I was in an unfamiliar place so that was a big no. I just focused on me, didn't make it a pity party on interview day, and did the best I could with the cards I was dealt. Yes, it is embarrassing at first, but people are very understanding.

No, you don't need evidence. When you report the lost luggage, you'd be given a claim receipt regardless.

I'd think that this person won't be able to afford medical school, and doesn't have enough brains to find a thrift store.

Interesting perspective. On the other hand, I'd ding someone more for coming in with an ill fitting out of date suit than in business causal in this case (lets be real, 90%+ of the suits you'd find in a thrift store fall into this category)

Of course they can't afford medical school but how many of the applicants that you admit can pay for it out of pocket? He'd take loans just like everyone else

There's an entire process of getting to the point of matriculation that requires the outlay of cash.

Someone has the cash to apply and interview for med school, but can't afford a suit? There's some judgement issues there....see the last of my sig lines

pro tip: just bring a carry on.

Do people really bring checked bags for a quick 1-2 day trip?
I agree. However, the way my classes were set up, I was able to go for a 5-day trip to Boston when I interviewed and only missed one class (on the day of the actual interview so it was excused) 🙂
