Has anyone taken the MCAT three times or more?
Did you try google? Or perhaps the search function? Of course there are people who have. I personally know someone who took the old MCAT 6 times. She did eventually matriculate into an MD school, but never got past the Step 1.
I don't mean to be rude, but I will be straightforward to not waste your time and get you the best help possible.
What is your actual question? What is your "soup question"? Because your current question doesn't help you, and what you need is help. So ask the question that will help you, ask your soup question.
Example:
Are you asking if its possible to gain admission with 3 or more attempts? Sure.
Are you asking if this terror is worth it? Only you can decide.
Are you asking for advice on how to finally improve to a satisfactory score with your back against the proverbial "3 in one year, 4 in 2 years, 7 in a lifetime" limit wall? That we can help with.
I am writing the following so you know you're not alone, and that yes a bad score is painful, and that yes its possible to improve.
------
I understand your pain. I can sympathize. Hesitation, aversion, disappointment, sadness, all the negativity is real and it is powerful. You can feel that you're not just letting yourself down, but also those around you and those supporting you. The pressure can drive you insane. You've gone through the process multiple times, never faring as well as you hoped. You take the leap out of desperation, and you crash and burn. I took my first MCAT in 2012 after studying for 5 months. My FLs were middling, but I needed to take a shot under parental pressure. I got a 27Q and combined with my GPA, figured I would never be a doctor and gave up on my lifelong dream. Yes, lifelong. Whenever it was Halloween, I was wearing kid's scrubs and a surgical cap with a steth and a reflex hammer because that's what I wanted to be. I have a picture from when I was 5 in that outfit holding a yellow "Principles of Surgery" book. But I gave up because it seemed impossible, even with a retake. My hopes were dashed. heart crushed, my dream squashed. The fire and passion was gone. I felt, and was, utterly defeated.
5 years went by, working as a medical biller, and all of my friends from high school and college who wanted to be a doctor are now either PGY or M. I was happy for them, but Instagram and Facebook posts just hurt my heart and soul. I had enormous regret over my lost dream. I didn't want to feel this way anymore. I talked to my parents about it, and they said they would support me again but I had to do it right, and do it ASAP. I talked to the SO, she was supportive as well but she too, demanded I had a plan. I found a postbacc program, and I started preparing for the MCAT. I was terrified of the new, longer format with a brand-new section that I hadn't covered properly in my undergrad. I took it this year on a whim because why not? I was already considered a retaker, so who cares how many times I do it, as long as it's within the limit. Via Google, I found SDN. I devoured every Study Strategy thread I could find in the MCAT subforum. I went through the experience threads, I did my research. I created a longer review schedule, but a slot opened up in September, so I condensed it. I stopped working, locked myself in the room, and got to work. With my strict, PITA, high-intensity study schedule, I managed a 517. I'm due to start the post bacc in January, and my dream has never felt more in reach.
I owe this forum and community so much. I will return it as much as I can. And if I can help you, I will. But you have to ask the right question. You've got to ask your soup question.
I did 😉Has anyone taken the MCAT three times or more?
