It's too bad that he's not as erudite and cultured as you.

lol

heehee

We are in no place to judge ben carson as a neurosurgeon.
he is considered to be a legend for a reason
most of you will never come anywhere close to being the equivalent of a ben carson in whatever you do.

Still think he's awesome. There are those of us who agree with him by and large.

How about his ******* unfounded claims on vaccines and the schedule they're on?

Really, because even in terms of medicine and science in general he has some ridiculous opinions, especially regarding vaccines and evolution.

Again...Ben Carson is a ******* outside of neurosurgery...so yeah we can judge him when he says the STUPIDEST **** like evolution isnt a thing..etc..etc

There's no question that he has done some damage to the reputation of neurosurgery in the general public and possible medicine in general. Probably not a lot, but some. Whether that's fair or not because his politics have nothing to do with his skills as a surgeon is another story, but the average person doesn't think that way.

Are we supposed to take you seriously when you provide the bolded text as a synopsis of Carson's views?

Are we actually have a conversation about the validity of his views? He's a creationist and a religious freak that thinks homosexuality is a choice...anyone that agrees with him is automatically disqualified from being taken seriously and should be marginalized. He is an evolution denier so i'm not sure what you want from me..?

That's a lot of big boy talk for being a fly on the wall

LOL i'm going to be a doctor..just like we all are...doctors aren't a big deal and Ben Carson certainly isn't especially after being made fun of by every comedian and political pundit for his absurd views and ineptness

What I wanted was maturity, but I was clearly being unrealistic.

I'd almost forgotten about him

I'll echo another poster -- if there's anything he's good at politically speaking, it's self-promotion.

So it's impossible to be a doctor and be religious simultaneously?

You should try being in the media spotlight 24/7 and see how easy it is.

lol, cool down there little bro. Just because some people disagree with your opinions on a bunch of topics doesn't make them buffoons who should be "marginalized."

Do you know who else had such strong opinions about the sub-humanity of people who disagreed with them? Very nice guys like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, the KKK, the Spanish Inquisition, etc etc etc.

I'm sure you feel that's different cause these other totalitarians were WRONG! whereas you are RIGHT! but that's frankly neither here nor there. They were as sure of their own righteousness as you are of yours. Just food for thought, cause the way you started this thread and are frothing at the mouth with every post makes me think you wouldn't be any kinder to those you disagree with than Stalin and the Inquisition were to their own opponents. Thank GOD you don't actually have any power, and I'm not even religious. lol

Considering surgeons, were on average, better students than non-surgeons, what is this going to say about you?

Just saying you don't need to know crap about the pyramids, evolution, or anything else to be a good neurosurgeon.

I would certainly prefer if he did...or at least if he'd keep his views out of the public eye...But the two aren't directly related.

My boss (transplant surgeon) always tells people "I'm not very smart, really I'm just a very, very good plumber."

It's called our tax dollars being used for education, health care, social security, clean energy, etc. instead of wars, corporate subsidies/bail-outs, corrupt politicians...
Our tax dollars are already going to all of these things. We spend too much as it is. In reality we should be spending less on everything given our enormous debt. Throwing more money at it is like giving the cookie monster more cookies. He's just gonna keep eating them. That's a terrible solution. What we need to do is cut the waste.

If I'm a chicken and think producing more eggs for my farmer will mean I get to keep more of them, I'm a Bernie supporter.

With the exception of education, not a single thing you named on either side deserves more/any tax money.

Wait so the original question was has Ben Carson made a mockery of medicine/NS? Is that a yes? I feel like a lot of people outside medicine thought doctors were smart but after he stepped into the lime light and made his many many comments they have started to reconsider how hard it is to become a doctor/how smart you need to be. Not good for us.

Yes, the tired old trope of liberals poking fun of conservatives for being dumb. Durrrrrr.

Meanwhile, 100% of the country's bums, welfare queens, and assorted total losers vote Democrat. Every. Single. Time. But hey, John Oliver says you guys are wicked smart, so after you finish patting yourselves on the back pat yourselves on the back one more time.

Only took a couple of posts for the vaccine bullies to show their faces. You know, the crowd who is convinced by "data" (which they have not personally evaluated critically) that every single vaccine is harmless and beneficial and anything other than 100% acceptance is to demonstrate utter idiocy and is quick to jump on the intelligence-shaming bandwagon whenever the word vaccine comes up in anything other than a glowing positive light by trying to make it a binary issue. I.e., ironically dumbing down a complex topic to try and criticize people for being intellectually lazy. "You're not automatically accepting that every vaccine is anything other than perfect for everybody, what are you, some ******ed commoner who learns science from Jenny McCarthy?" I learned everything I need to know about every vaccine to cast this judgement in the first week of medical school!"

E.g., Every premed and medical student.

Are you that insecure?

Ben Carson made a fool of himself. NOT DOCTORS.
Someone hitting their wife is a crime against her. NOT AGAINST WOMEN.
A judgement about someone applies only to them. NOT GROUP/S THEY BELONG TO.
Someone of race x experiencing hardship applies only to that person. NOT EVERYONE OF RACE x.

Collectivism is insanity. If someone says to you "[doctors are stupid because of Ben Carson]," ask them if they are accurately represented by the dumbest person in the country who graduated with the degree they have.

I hope none of the above posters believe vaccines are harmless. Relative to the benefits, though, I think it's a reasonable generalization to say they're harmless.

Now I'm curious what your view of vaccines as a whole are. Again, I agree that it's absolutely the medical community's role to objectively analyze the very real harm vaccines (or any intervention) do, not pretend they don't exist for fear that people won't get vaccinated. Pathological altruism comes to mind.

Calling Ben Carson an idiot and saying things like "he's made a mockery of neurosurgery" is such an absurd statement. He is a man of faith. Faith doesn't base itself in reason or analytical thinking. However one can posses both faith and reasoning, they are not mutually exclusive. Clearly a man smart enough to graduate from yale, be accepted to UM, John Hopkins Neurosurgery resident and become the youngest person to ever head a Pediatric Neurosrugery department posses the ability to scientifically reason. Are some of his beliefs grounded is faith a little out there? Sure, I personally do not necessarily agree with everything he believes. However to belittle a man who is clearly brilliant in his own right because of his religious faith is Ignorant as well. Why is that people do not believe that you can be both religious and intelligence.

I am a neurosurgery resident. I don't feel like he has made a mockery of my profession anymore than he has physicians as a whole. As others have said, you can have personal beliefs outside of your job. I don't support his views but he is still well respected within neurosurgery.

I think the absolute craziest thing about him is saying Harriet Tubman shouldn't kick A. Jackson off the $20. I mean, the dude is BLACK. And, he's not even in the race anymore. How could you not support a figure like Tubman over someone who basically was a genocider??
