OK this post is by a really depressed 2013 applicant. I am posting here to see if there is anybody (or if you know anybody in your class) who has got in with 18AA and 19 ts! this SD predental is all about 21+... I have a graduate degree in bio and 3.6 sGPA and 3.7 oGPA... please please if any of you who has gone through interviews and has already been accepted... can tell me something that makes me feel better please tell me🙁 have all of you been accepted with 21-22+ in all sections??! then why the averages for scools are on the lower side?

PS i am studying to retake but have applied in early june. If I can score higher i ll take the test again late september if not then i will see what may chances are with current score.

You should be just fine. People on SDN are full of crap. Apply broadly and I would be very surprised if you didn't get it. I would be more worried about your lack of self confidence than I would academic performance.

I'm sure you have a decent chance with your stats, though I would make sure to apply broadly and realistically. In the event of not being accepted, consider retaking the DAT.

You do not however need 21 across the board. I had a 20 AA, and a 16 QR. Many people on SDN are over-achievers, and you need to remember that SDN represents a very small portion of the applicants to dental school, you can't take the scores they post and think it counts as a good example of the average applicant.

States are a big part of the picture, but not the only part. Depending on which school you are talking about, of course there will be people with your stats or even lower that get in, but remember that these people also usually have something else going on for them...lots of experience, raising 2 kids by themselves, previous career, being a hygienist, family that donates money, served 8 tours in Iraq and Afganistan, etc. Not trying to be mean or disheartening, but that's the reality of it. People with high stats don't need a lot to make them stand out more. People with lower stats need something more to stand on...sometimes it's just personality.

Hallelujah!

No. Most people on SDN are full of it. I got in with sub 21 scores.

two people in my class got a 16 average. cast a broad net, utilize positive thinking, and you have a great shot.

I know of an individual who got in with a 17 AA last year. However, this year most people in my class are 2nd or 3rd time applicants; very few straight out of school. Seems like it's becoming harder to matriculate every year. That being said, do well in your interview and be a well-rounded applicant. Scores get you the interview. Everything else seals the deal.

Got in with an 18 science total score and I think I got a 20 in perceptual ability. Maybe a 21. I got a biology degree with a 3.5 gpa. Got into Temple, Pitt an NYU. No West school would take me even though I got interviews with many of them. Ended up choosing Temple and have been graduated and practicing 2 years now. Keep at it. Don't ever give up. I took the DAT twice. Got a 16 the first time and 18 the second time. You have have to send out lots of applications to many schools but you can get in with that. It is getting more difficult however so you have to pick your schools wisely. I wouldn't waste your time with a lot fo West schools you might have been hoping to get into because they will throw yours out just by the numbers alone. So if you want to head west, you're gonna have to be at least a 20 to have a fighting chance. Good luck.

yup

i got in with a 22 aa, 21 ts, 22 pat and 17 carving (canadian dat)

good luck OP

I got in to CU Dental School with a AA of 17 and 3.5 GPA. Pad your resume with experience and nail the interview.
