I just got my grade back for this semester and unfortunately I recieved a D in physics. This semester has been a crazy, hectic and stressful one. I had 2 upper level psyc classes, a physiology, physics, and 2 deaths in my family. The only reason I ask if i have blown it or not is because this is my 3rd time in physics. This semster was the first time i completed it the whole semester through, the other times i dropped before completing the class. Reasons why i dropped was as follows: the first time i was in danger of getting a D so i dropped, the 2nd time i had a really tough course load and wanted to wait until i had more time to devote to the class. I am not going to let this break me, i am going to retake it ( i graduated this semester so the good thing is , it will be the only class i have to take ). If you are wondering why i have graduated and am stil taking physics, i changed my major and am a little behind. i have physics and organic to take before i can take the MCAT . I was just needing some opinions or advice or any thoughts in general. I wonder what the admissions board will think when they see this? I hope to have a respectable post-bacc GPA with the physics and organic i have left to take, maybe this will help make up for this mess i have gotten myself in.
thanks for listening

I am not an expert, but I do not think that you totally blew it. The circumstances surrounding your D in physics are significant. If you take it again and ace it, that will show your persistence and dedication. But let me ask you this, how does everything else look? Grades, MCAT, EC's, LOR's, etc. Are you applying for 2003, or entering a post-bac immediately? Whatever is going on, you have the right attitude by not letting it get you down. Good luck!

I don't think you've blown it. You have good reasons. I would also think that you have persistence to go for it again. You should be fine if you have the overall package. Good luck!

shan...i agree with the previous posts....and thank God you guys were respectable and sensitive. sometimes that's lacking in this world.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

😍

hey shan, trust me , you totally DID NOT blow it... you've got great reasons... you might want to take the physics again though as suggested above but as the others have said... if those are your reasons and you can explain them if need be, you have not blown it at all. (hope that makes you feel better)

Be sure to explain your situation in your application. Don't belabor the issue but provide a brief explanation.

if you really want to be a doctor, you WILL go to medical school, don't worry =)

I'm hardly an expert on the application process, but I think it would help out a lot to mention your circumstances in the personal statement. It's almost like a pre-interview interview. Good luck

Although you haven't blown it, you'll have to explain this at each and every interview. You'll have to find a way to do it concisely while still sounding believable. You'll also have to take the class a fourth time... no American med school will accept a D in a required pre-med course.

Good luck,
doepug

Specially because you dropped it on two other ocassions..hopefully adcoms will not go through your transcript looking for stuff...

Hmm..a D on the third attempt is a good indication that you are having trouble with physics itself. Have you taken any upper-level math courses or met with your professors to determine what specifically you are having troubles with? I think both of those might help. I am just thinking that a D might not seem like a grade of circumstance unless you do very well in the second semester of it.

Shan, I completely understand how you feel. I have had a similar situation with Organic Chemistry. I made perfect straight A's in general chem, A's in all bio so far, A's and B's in Physics, come to Organic (second semester) and make a D. I retook the course and made a B. I am hoping that this D will not kill me. I am planning on taking the MCAT in April. So I guess what I'm trying to do is comfort you, Shan, letting you know that you are not alone, and also get some advice on my situation! Thanks guys. Merry Christmas! 🙂

I know exactly how u feel, I probally got around the same grade in the class, haven't looked at my grades yet. Ohh well😱 . Don't let this phase you,

keep on keepin on

Good luck:clap:

You are fine. Don't worry about the D, but you may want to retake it and some other science courses to prove that you can handle the rigor of them. I had C-'s and retook the courses, and most people were impressed that I redid the classes after 3 or 4 years. Just show persistence and you will do well. Also, they will question you about grades in the interview, but make sure you explain your situation well and show how you turned the situation around in a positive way, and how going through these trials will help you face future challenges. Focus on how the situation changed you and what it taught you about yourself. That's what I did. Good luck.....and stay encouraged!😉
