My alarm did not go off and I missed an extra credit quiz and a small math presentation. Not a huge deal, but I tend to beat myself up for such things. Who else is guilty of this, and what is the worst thing you have missed by oversleeping?

Surprisingly...never.

In fact, I usually don't get enough sleep due to test anxiety. I wonder how this will pan out for the MCAT.

I have 3 alarm clocks I use everyday: 2 inexpensive digital ones and 1 computer application.

I have one digital alarm next to my bed, the other across the room, and my sh*ty laptop takes a minute to get out of screen saver mode. By the time all the noise is gone, I'm almost ready for the shower.

...or my housemates yell at me to STFU 😀

I definitely slept in past my wake up early and study time, but I don't remember sleeping in for a test. Now I take night classes.

i've slept during a test before. but i aced it anyway.

Me too, I have a hard time sleeping on nights before tests, I should stay up and study instead of trying to sleep.

I overslept and missed a Calculus FINAL once... it was a nightmare! I was so flustered when I realized what I had done. Luckily, the teacher let me re-take it with no penalty.

She was one of those professors that took attendence for no apparent reason (didn't count for/against our grade) and I happened to almost always go to that class. She said she took out the attendence sheets and when she saw how good my attendance was, she decided to let me get away with this one mistake.

I ended up Acing the exam and the class.

This. Slept during a chem final. It was an introductory class and thus a joke. My TA knew my performance throughout the semester, so when she saw me sleeping, she let me nap for about 30 minutes, and then woke me up. 2 hour exam period, finished the last page of the exam with about an hour to spare 😛

Overslept a math test :S I also nearly missed a chemistry test. Woke up 2minutes before class and sprinted all the way from the library (fell asleep studying) to the chem building. Fun stuff 🙁

Nope, not yet. But I set two alarms and they are on the other side of my room so I have to get up. I have done the thing where I turn them off and go right back to bed without knowing it. So thats why they are on the other side of the room now.

Not yet, though this is one of my worst fears. Haha.

I haven't been a full time student for about 14 years and I don't recall ever oversleeping for a test back then. Currently, I am working full time and taking a biochem class. A few weeks ago I overslept and woke up one hour before the exam. 😱 This is bad because I am a 40 minute commute from the school and by the time I park and walk to the building it is even longer. I managed to throw on some clothing and dash out the door and make it to the test five minutes before it started. 👍

I haven't slept late enough to miss part or all of a test, but I've definitely slept late and missed valuable morning study time before.

I slept in and was 30 mins LATE to a spanish Final Exam! I was terrified, but still aced it with time to spare. I am good with Spanish and was only taking the class to keep up my facility with the language, but I would've absolutely died if I had ended up failing it because of sleeping in!!! I don't think I've ever been in more of a panic.

I actually slept for like a second or two during the mcat. I was slapping myself to stay awake.

Though I have overslept on multiple occasions, I've been lucky enough for it to never happen during a test.

Tip, Set multiple alarms 3 minutes apart. I frequently awake to the 3rd and final one.

First year I had a buddy in the same appartment complex who would pound on my window if I didnt answer my phone before a big exam.

Overslept for my geology final sophomore year, I was supposed to pull an all-nighter after a quick nap. I didn't wake up until my roommate came back from her final that morning. I ran to class to take the exam with half an hour left after not studying.. Brought me down to a B+ from an A in the class.. annnd 7 years later I'm still pissed about it.

ALSO, I was going to be late for an Anatomy exam and running through the parking lot I fell in a ginormous puddle. I had to take the exam with my pants and arm sleeves soaking wet. 🙁

I've never overslept for an exam (class yeah, but not exam), and I've woken others up so they don't oversleep 🙂
My freshman year, I didn't have an exam, but my roommate did. I woke up when her alarm went of and headed back to sleep. About 30 minutes later, I realized she hadn't gotten up so I yelled at her to wake her up. She barely made it.
The other story is from a few weeks ago. I am generally up and out the door before my roommate now wakes up because I go to the gym, so I didn't think anything of it when he wasn't up when I left. Then about 10 minutes before our exam I realized he wasn't in the classroom, so I sent him a text that according to him, woke him up. He was about 5 minutes late, but luckily that particular professor didn't care about people being a little late 😳

woke up once TWO HOURS after my history FINAL had already ended.

i looked up my ta's name from my school's site and called her at home crying haha, i think she felt so bad for me that she let me retake it with no penalty. i had a few days extra to study, which i needed, and i pulled out an A 🙂

Yep, senior year. Went to bed at 3, was going to get up and write a 2-page paper at 9am for an 11am class, with a 1pm exam.

Woke up at 1:15, feeling very well-rested. Still got an 87 on the test, I think.

Try to register for an afternoon MCAT if this is an issue. Test anxiety will get to you if especially if it happens on a regular basis.

Surprising you guys were allowed to retake after oversleeping, that doesn't seem like a valid excuse. It didn't work for me... I overslept a midterm, and failed it. The resulting W will haunt me forever. I got one of those extremely loud alarms with an attached bedshaker, as supplement to a regular alarm clock + cell phone 😎

Missing a quiz I would probably kick myself but I wouldn't make too much of a big deal about it. Now what was extremely awkward for me was to wake up late and come to my 3-hour lab one hour late the last week of the quarter. The TA's just finished going over the experiment and people are starting their experiments...

Overslept a Microbio exam. I was going thru a period where I was unable to fall asleep until sunrise (horrible feeling) and would sleep thru multiple alarm clocks. Needless to say, my roommate got sick of it and just shut them off that day and went on to her class. I wanted to murder her. Seriously. I think she was in the same class too. smh

I think that is what happened to me. I had not gotten to sleep until five in the morning for some reason. It is possible I turned off the alarm without remembering I was so tired.

I have a strict calendar that I go by updated with every class syllabus. One class changed the final exam date a month before the test; I had it written down in a notebook but never took note of it on the calendar. I even checked the university exam schedule, but the change was not reflected and I missed the test. My buddy gave me a call directly after the final exam asking what I thought of it and my heart just dropped. I thought I was going to fail the course.

I emailed all professors, called their offices, and sat in front of their door for at least five hours the next morning starting at 7am. Everyone involved in the course was sleeping in that day, so I just had to sit and wait and wait and wait. Luckily, the course coordinator allowed me to sit in the conflict exam later that evening and I did well. It was as if the situation never happened.

i have three alarms set and sometimes never hear a single one after studying all night for a test... it happens and professors know it. if they give you slack, remind them that they were in college before too... no worries.

Wow, I get real nightmares about this. Missing a final, coming to class with nothing when a project is due, etc... Waking up from these kinds of dreams is SUCH a relief, but I have had to consciously remind myself that it was the weekend, or summer break, or currently, that I am out of school. The times I have had these kind of nightmares is probably more than I can count on all my fingers and toes!

I wonder what Freud would say 😕?

I can't count how many times I underslept a test.

I've had plenty of alarm clock mishaps; I've set it to PM instead of AM, quick blackouts or power surges have turned it off, turned it off when I meant to snooze it, breaking it when trying to snooze it. The solution to the first and second one was always having my cell phone alarm set and charged. The solution to the last 2 was keeping my clock on the opposite side of my room so I have to actually get up to stop the noise (I'm not a very heavy sleeper).

However, I've managed to luck out since this had never happened on a test day (at least not when the test was early enough to be affected).

Grade 12 Chemistry, final exam, came in like 1 hour late, had another hour to write the whole thing. 36%.

This is such a d-bag thing to do. Just take the exam, finish, leave early and go home and sleep. Sleeping during an exam is a surefire way to annoy/infuriate your classmates.

I have less glued-to-the-bed incidents on days I find important. I will usually wake up earlier than normal and decide to stay up.

Despite my efforts, I fell asleep after finishing my test an hour early too, following a couple allnighters.

Some professors require us to stay until the testing period is done or everyone else is done. Most of us finished with about an hour to spare and a couple other guys in the room spent the remaining hour rechecking and rechecking their test it seemed.

I never have-- knock on wood! I've overslept for a lab or a class a few times. That is when I put my alarm clock on the other side of the room (much to my roommate's annoyance), so I HAVE to force myself out of bed to turn it off. I also sometimes set two on an important day && also have my parent's call me.

I feel really bad for people who have this happen to them. I know what a #$!#%! it is to sometimes get up in the morning with chronic sleep-deprivation.

First final exam in college was at 830am. I woke up at 10. I sprinted all the way across campus in my PJs and got there as the professor was packing up to go home. She let me take it thank god.
