Hey all. I was offered an interview today, however I'm not sure if I will attend. I plan on confirming it anyway and seeing how things are when it gets closer. It's not one of my top choices and I've already received interviews at other schools. If it were local I would attend anyway, however I'd have to fly there. I'm already flying out to other schools I'm more interested in. Just wondering if anyone else has cancelled a school's interview? I definitely will let them know within a weeks notice or so, but I want to keep it for now just to see how things pan out with the other schools.

I rejected interview like a boss 🙂 For example, the particular interview I received at St. Johns Fisher; told them I would only do interview if they did phone call if not see ya 🙂

Its perfectly acceptable to turn down an interview after you have accepted it. But you want to do so professionally and not in a manner in which is suggested in this post:

That is classless, unprofessional and very telling about the student's maturity level. If I were ever on an admissions committee and received such an immature response, I would consider it my professional obligation to ensure that this applicant never receive an invitation to matriculate at any pharmacy school by informing all schools of what transpired. Lucky for this student, I am not in charge. Too bad for him/her, there are more people who think like me.

What you do NOT want to do is a) not show up for a scheduled interview b) take the interview and then not take it seriously.

Pharmacy is a very small world. I cannot tell you the number of times people I have never met personally have heard of my name in various settings. Conducting yourself professionally is of utmost importance. Simply inform the school that you have elected to pursue other opportunities which were presented to you and that you wish to withdraw your name from their applicant pool with advance notice so that if possible the space can be filled by another qualified candidate.

I smell ... a rat. Far far worse than being immature in my opinion. And i think most posters would agree with me.

You have to look out for #1; do what's best for you. These schools make lots of money from applications and tuition and federal grant money. I wouldn't feel too bad if you had to cancel. These schools understand the amount of pressure applicants are in, and will not take cancellations personally.

Whether you think its worse than immaturity is a question of your belief set. Call me a rat, a fink, a turn, a screw, whatever you like - I am delivering the truth, unedited, so that students do not continue to make the same foolish mistakes they have been making for years.

Conduct yourself professionally at all times is the ONLY message you should get out of this.
