Many people have recommended I do a masters to compensate for my low GPA but I recently spoke to someone on an admissions committee for a dental school and she recommended I do a post bacc instead of masters not only to save money but because in her opinion the only thing ds looks at is your overall GPA which considering you for further review then they look further to see what classes you took and whatnot. But her argument was that once they see the upward trend during further review that will have the same weightage as a masters.

What do you guys think?

what kind of gpa are we talking about?

have you already completed the pre-requisites in undergrad?

edit: looked up your post history...you're in a bad spot. with your ugrad gpa that low it will help you immensely to take undergrad level courses until you get everything up to at least a 3.0 to avoid some auto-cutoffs. at that point you'll need to reassess the value in tacking on some graduate course work to increase the chance a dental program will even sniff at you.

or a podiatry program.

or an optometry program.

good luck on your tooth/foot/eye career goals in 2015

@Ferneezy I have been told by an adcom that if i get up to a 3.0 and apply early I should be good with my DAT score. And to be honest yeah I may have asked questions in the optometry and podiatry forums but I have no desire to pursue those fields over dentistry. This is what I have spent a majority of my life working towards and I truly enjoy the experiences. Sure, it can be difficult at times knowing that my GPA is low and that I may not have a shot at my dream so I go and explore careers that do not interest me but I'm sure many people like me do the same. I going to be taking post bacc courses and working my way up to a 3.0 then applying.

ok, so do that. every course grade below an A makes the path to dentistry that much longer.
