Hi Everyone,

I'm having a difficult time finding a DPM to shadow in my area. I live in Northern California--Bay Area-- East Bay. I've set out about 10 cover letters and resumes, with no response. Should I drop in the office?

I'm not sure what to do at this point.... I looked at the AACPMAS directory and hope to widen my search to North Bay and into San Francisco.

I'm hoping anyone in the SDN community could help me out with a shadow-friendly DPM in the bay area? Any lead would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Thank you for your response.

For five of the practices, I called and asked to speak to the office manager. They all said they would leave a message for me, but no one returned my call. Subsequently, I postal mailed my cover letter and resume to them. Still no response.

Doing the physical drop-in will probably be the best route, I suppose? Should I go back to the offices I've called and mailed?

I am thinking of contacting CSPM for any alumni who would be more inclined for prospective podiatry students, what do you think?

Alumni sounds good, but don't give up on the office. Persistence pays off. Drop in, introduce yourself and explain why you want to shadow a doctor.

Not every doctor is gonna bend over for you, but many do care about the future of their profession. Some will be ecstatic to mentor you.

Don't give up!!!

Thank you!

I hope to hit the jackpot tomorrow. I'm going to make calls tomorrow, no letters. Hopefully I can stop by an office.

To shadow an OB-GYN, I sent out 10 letters and received this one call back. Shadowed for 4 hours/week for 4 months and then got hired on as a Biller/Surgery Scheduler three months ago once I decided Special Ed teaching wasn't the thing for me. Now, just got offered Office Manager position just three hours ago....

Loving the experience of back office private practice!

Don't lose focus of the goal.

As you said in an earlier post. A good way to get shadowing set up is to contact the school that is there in the bay area. That would be my mode of action if I were you.

Hi Everyone!

I pretty much got a very prompt response from Samuel Merritt. I'm very very happy! Going to call the Dr tomorrow to set something up.

YES!!! C/O 2017 LET'S DO THIS!

Hey! That's wonderful news! Thank you for having the heart to share your good fortune with us. 🙂

Good luck!
