Hey what do you guys think about having two of the four AADSAS letters be from dentists(the other two are chem and bio profs)? The only reason why I'm doing this is because I've worked with my prosthodontist for about 3 years and he could probably write me the best letter out of the 4. I'm also having one written by my general dentist because some schools such as tufts requires a letter from a general, otherwise I wouldn't have asked him for one.

That was my plan until today when I talked to my prostho and he was a little shocked that I was having two letters from dentists. He says that might seem a little peculiar to adcoms. I didn't think anything of it till he told me that and I respect his opinion but not sure what to do. What do you guys think? Should I take out the prostho letter and put in another prof? I have a professor I've ta'd for for two years and he could write a great character reference.

Most schools I checked require only two LOR's from science professors, so I don't see why not have the other two be from dentists. I'd check to make sure though that none of your schools require 3 science letters.

Columbia requires three science letters. But they allow you to mail in an additional letter if you run out of room on AADSAS.

What about letters from 2 bio professors, but the same class because one did lecture and one did a small group session?

Thanks for the tips y'all! I think I'll stick with my original plan, my prostho is a little old and probably isn't used to the application system and trends nowadays anyways. I'll just stick with my gut feeling and your guys' advice.

Additional question unrelated to my original post. Does anyone know how many shadowing hours at a general dentist are required at University of Detroit Mercy in Michigan?

On the pdf document titled 'Additional Requirements for Dental School 2015' that I found on this site, it says 60 hours at a general. But on the school's website, there is no clear number of hours listed. I'll probably give them a call tomorrow to double check, but just thought I'd check here first
