I just finished my first semester since starting my post-bacc and believe it or not, I'm having trouble "winding down," so to speak. I keep feeling like I have to do something to be more productive....

Anyone else in the same boat? What are you doing to relax?

Apologies if this is not an appropriate thread.

Whiskey! Well...sometimes. Working out, even if it's a short one, also eases my mind. Buy a bitchin' video game or book and let yourself get sucked into it. Hang out with friends, find a lady (or man) friend, call your mother, play with somebody's dog.

Just find something to distract you for a bit. Works well enough for me.

EDIT: I'm not currently a student, but I am intimately familiar with stress and difficult deadlines.

I do not know of this phrase you speak of, LOL. This last semester was insane for me, I work almost full time, started a club at my school, student government, two research projects and I took 18 credits over half being sciences prereqs. At this point I welcome the stress of medical school, I digress, I have never been able to wind down, until I met my boyfriend. He is the king of chilling, at first it use to bother me, now I respect it. My tunnel vision is very narrow when I have a goal in mind. Lately I have been having dreams of acceptance letters and I HAVEN'T APPLIED YET! I'm probably slowly losing my mind, but it will be worth, if you tell yourself that over and over again as your going to sleep, I'm sure that can qualify as winding down! 😉 Take vile advise though, my dog understands me and I love him for it. He's always there with a lick when I need it and willing to be an exercise buddy.

Yeah, I hear you. I'm still wanting to go go go at the same speed I did all semester. I think it'll wear off soon enough. 😀

I'll second the play with a dog suggestion. Mine's really enjoying all the extra attention he's getting.

YES. This is exactly how I feel. My wife and children are working jobs, and I'm hanging around the house watching every episode of "Criminal Minds" and "Bones". I'd get out and bike or swim but the weather in the midwest refuses to get around to spring. One night I stayed awake all night long watching 3 seasons of Dexter. I'm starting to get a little strange.

Woo! There are very things that blend the feelings of accomplishment and self-loathing like successfully watching a series from beginning to end in one sitting.

hehe i have to admit that after my exams, I watched the whole season's worth of house and fringe, cleaned out my dvr....then i went and scanned in all my notes from the semester.

Yes, dude. I feel exactly like you do. I don't know what to do with myself. I got a 1000 + page book out of the library, been watching TV, pre-studying for Organic next semester, volunteering, hanging out with the dog as well. It still doesn't feel like enough. I guess I was pushing myself so hard that suddenly not having nearly as much to do feels like something is wrong. Wish I had a paid job right now!
