I am kinda new to the whole step I conversation (I just started medical school recently and just finished module 2 exams) but was wondering what advice people had for studying for this beast at this point in time. The reason I want to start so early is because from what I hear, doing well in my classes isn't enough. And on top of that, I would hate to do well in my classes but then get owned at step.

I've checked out Taus's study guide but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a study plan starting the first year of medical school. I have only covered some Anatomy, Biochemistry, Immunology, Histology, and Physiology thus far.

With those subjects under your belt, at most you could page through First Aid or even BRS Physiology.

I wouldn't stress about it your first year. Starting next year, think about getting a Qbank like USMLERx though.

But remember! That's NEXT year. This year, you just focus on your study habits and enjoying life as a first year!

You really can't do much now.

If you feel super, super compelled to do something then I would recommend the following:

1) Read BRS Physiology - this book is amazing and it will help you with your M1 coursework. If you know this book cold by the end of your first year then it will save you some time during step 1 studying.

2) Get a copy of First Aid and memorize the anatomy sections after you have covered that part in your course work. I haven't taken step 1 yet, but I have heard from multiple people that the anatomy in First Aid is more or less plenty. Anatomy is also very much a "use it or lose it" subject that you won't be looking at during M2.

I wouldn't really recommend going through anything else. You have precious little free time as a med student. Enjoy it while you have it!

Doing well in your classes does matter. The better you learn it now, the easier studying will be. That being said, don't do anything now except learn the material as best you can. Next year you can start actually looking at studying for it.

You can't do much specifically for step 1 first year. Best idea is to study hard and really learn the material. Only other thing to do is use First Aid along with your classes--goal here is to make sure you know everything in that section of first aid by the end of the course, this won't help you so much for the course, but it will make it so you're not having to memorize a bunch of completely new stuff for step 1.

Then, next year, make sure you use Goljan audio and RR path along w/ coursework. Throw in Robbins Review and Webpath (questions and pictures) for good measure. Biggest thing is to really learn your stuff well during the year.
