Hi all,

I'm getting increasingly concerned about migraines in DS if I get in... I never used to have a problem with headaches, they've been very occasional over the yrs. However, I've noticed a disturbing pattern over the past 2yrs, since I've started back to school taking pre-reqs. I'm fine if the prof just lectures and writes on the chalkboard or whiteboard, and labs are fine, but if they use a ppt, I almost always end up with a headache. When I attend all day CE courses and they use ppt, I get a full-blown migraine with nausea, light-sensitivity etc, and the same thing happened when I took the DAT.

Obviously, there are going to be classes all day in DS, every day for the first 2yrs, and probably almost all with ppt! Any suggestions on how to potentially deal with this? I've already seen an optometrist to get my eyes checked out, and they said nothing was wrong with my vision, but I don't know.
I know it's possible to get audio of the lectures, but I don't thinks profs will look to kindly on me never sitting in on their classes! Anyone else have a similar problem, and what did you do?

Coffee did the magic for me. Not the greatest suggestion, but try black coffee (no sugar no cream) before classes.

do you drink a lot of caffeinated beverages? I usually get a headache if I skip a cup of coffee or soda.

I had headaches often in undergrad because of this, but it hasn't affected my performance in dental school (if that's what you want to hear)

Why not just print everything out on paper?
You can still go to class and follow along on your printouts.

Or take a nap

First, see a neurologist. They will tell you about dietary triggers, prescribe you prevention and rescue medication, physiotherapy, acupuncture. Recently Botox is approved to treat migraines
Second, register with disability office in your university. This will allow you to have some accommodations, maybe even sitting backwards in PP lectures
P.S. Migraines are triggered by caffeine, stick with decaf and herbal teas
