Hey Everyone,

So now that the excitement of being accepted to medical school has begun to subside I have started to look at some of the daunting costs associated with becoming a doctor. One route in particular is the Health Professions Scholarship Program from the Navy. Does anyone know about this program? If you don't mind sharing your thoughts I would greatly appreciate it.

General idea is that you shouldn't do it unless you want to have a military career. It's not worth it financially.

This is an important decision that you should think about long and hard. There are serious financial and lifestyle implications. I know people who can't wait to start their military residency, and I know people who wish they hadn't signed the paper.

I am applying for the Army hsps. All i need is the acceptance letter from med school(lol I know.. "just" that, right haha). Although I am not 100 percent decided yet, with all the downturn in enconomy, doctors getting paid less and less, and the new laws passed which make substidized loans for med school a thing of the past, The hsps looks good. I have seen some cost studies online, but none of the cost studies take into account how much a peace of mind is worth.
Just my take.
Good luck.

The peace of mind statement sounds dandy, except the military is notorious for getting way more out of you than you ever expect to give. The peace of mind from loans is nothing compared to the dissonance created from war. I also have kids and a wife that would never support the military, so my negatives are probably nothing like yours.
