Health sciences vs. AO

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Health science courses ARE considered all others. They're different than BCPM because they're not bio, chem, physics, or math. It kinda sucks for HS majors (or engineering, etc) because a lot of the classes probably should be included under the BCPM umbrella, in my opinion. Not surprisingly, AO includes, well, all the other classes, and your AO gpa includes everything from art to health science to basketweaving. The course classification shows up on your app, so adcoms will be able to see what types of courses you took.

Classify health science classes as HEAL, i think it's called. If they don't like it, they'll change it. Chances are, though, by the course title it'll be pretty obvious where they fall. "Other" is for weird classes that cover stuff that isn't any of the main categories.

Your AO gpa is all lumped together, so communications, econ, health sci...all in there. That's actually a good thing if you have bad grades in a few HS classes, because it can be balanced by good grades in others.

The online course description should be ok to use to defend your classfication. You have to do that little button thing on the AMCAS site for changing academic something-or-other. Somebody else can talk more about that, because they didn't change anything on mine so I don't know.

If a class falls under Health Science classification, but if AMCAS verifies it as AO. Does it matter? The AMCAS report won't distinguish what are communication, economics or health science class anyways, right? It only differentiate between BCPM and AO? So, what's the point of defining a class as HS?
What is the advantage or diadvantage as far as GPA calc, etc? If a class falls under health science or ALL other...a gray area...and terrible grades in those classes...What is an advise regarding how should I initially classify it? AO or HS?
And, is the online course description for any such class enough to prove them that if a class is BCPM or HS or AO?

AK

I think you're a little confused. The "Health Science" and "AO" distinctions are not mutually exclusive. "AO" is an overarching category that encompasses health sciences, business, philosophy, etc. -- anything that's not considered in your BCPM GPA. By classifying a course as "Health Sciences" you're also categorizing it as "AO." You don't have to choose between them.
