are doctor salaries going to up, down or stay the same over the next twenty years? I keep hearing about decrease medicare reimbursements from physicians, and would like to seriously know what kind of income I will have as an anesthesiologist or cardiologist in 2009. Please, only serious feedback.

Less that a cardiologist does right now...

Don't worry dude. Just expect physician salaries to increase roughly at the current rate vs inflation as it has recently. But that would depend on what type of work you do...ie INVASIVE CARDIOLOGY is a big thing now.
No one can possibly predict the rate of income vs. inflation...nor can they predict what will be the hot areas. A few years ago, people thought anesthesiology was dead and buried, now look at it!
All that you can expect is that healthcare is forever in flux. Adaptations are made.

Well, that is true. However the battle in Anesthesiology is not won. For more, please read this: http://www.asahq.org/NEWSLETTERS/2001/11_01/admin1101.htm
Just to let you know what's around the corner. :(

I can say with great likelihood that physicians' salaries will be at least at the same level as they are now.
