Hello everyone.

i have a Bachelor's degree in Zoology from my country.Problem is my grades were quite bad.i dont know how else to put it,i mean i knew i had my head halfway in my books coz of some personal issues i had at the time but...Anyway, my parents think i am useless coz they had hopes of me being the first doctor in the family. this issue is DEPRESSING me, ALL I DO IS CRY WHEN I THINK OF IT! i REALLY want to do medicine. i was thinking about doing a master's in health administration but i keep asking myself why i have to give up my dream. it would be like agreeing with everyone else that i cant make it coz that is exactly what everyone else says.

I am 26 and honestly dont mind going through college to be able to do a proper pre-med to prepare me for med-school. that's a lot of years i know but i am not settling down anytime soon anyway coz the guy i was dating broke my heart this week. i just want to put everything behind me and move from grass to grace.

Just to get a better idea: How bad are the grades you're talking about?

Not sure how it is in Ghana, but for ppl that totallly messed up in UG and really really wanna be a Doctor, I would say they go the Caribeean route. Look into it, SGU, ROSS, and AIC are the best three I think.

Are you in US now?

You probably will get better advice on one of the international boards if you are not in North America, and in the nontrad board if you are. Most of the folks in pre-allo are going directly from US college to US med schools, and probably lack firsthand info as to what options exist for older, non-US citizen individuals. If you are planning to practice medicine back in Ghana, I would agree that the caribbean option sounds reasonable, but like everyone else, I lack knowledge as to your home country's licensing requirements. Low grades, a foreign degree and non-resident status present hurdles for US medical education.
