Held acceptances

3-- but I withdrew from 2 to open up spots for other people.

That's not doing people a favor, it's common decency.

Financial aid will be a factor in my decisions, so I'm holding three. I let 2 others go b/c I knew I wouldn't go to those schools no matter what. I don't see anything wrong with holding multiple acceptances while one is honestly undecided ... If I get good news in the next 3 weeks, I would let the three I'm holding go immediately, but in the meantime, I can't make a decision without more information.

I'm holding several as well. For my top choices among my acceptances, I really need to see the place again. One interview day visit isn't enough to decide where I'll spend the next four years (which ultimately chooses where the rest of my life goes). When I was able to eliminate, I notified the school right away.

yup. just can't make the final decision without financial aid information. It's too important. I didn't go to a bunch of my interviews though so i don't feel bad. i feel like i've earned my acceptances and i've earned the privilege of being able to wait for financial aid before making a final decision.

One look at the program on the day of the interviedw is ABSOLUTELY not enough! I was b/t two schools and I wanted to revisit both. I revisited one, got very sick, didn't get to see a thing. And lack of finances precluded me from revisiting the other. So, I just spoke with several students at both schools via email/phone to help me make a decision. I'm gonna release the one I'm not going with soon.

I'm holding more than two, mostly out of complete and utter indecision, but I have a question for you guys. I heard that in March the med schools tell each other who's holding where so they know if you're holding more than one. The official list comes out May 15, but I guess the schools tell each other unofficially, and they can start pressuring you to cut down. Can a med school rescind its offer for reasons other than grades before May 15?

According to the AAMC they aren't supposed to pressure you until after May 15th (or April 15th for classes beginning before Aug 1st). This comes from their website:

Only after May 15 are schools free to apply appropriate rules for dealing with accepted applicants who, without adequate explanation, hold one or more places in other schools. These rules should recognize the problems of the applicant who has multiple offers and also of those applicants who have not yet been accepted. Only schools whose first official day of classes begins prior to August 1 may start to request decisions from accepted applicants prior to May 15 but not earlier than April 15. This rule applies to all accepted applicants for the entering medical school class, including those individuals entering M.D./Ph.D. programs and individuals to whom merit scholarships or other special scholarships have been awarded

There are more "rules" here:
http://www.aamc.org/students/applying/policies/recommendations.htm

Hope that helps!

Yes, but as the rules state, they are officially allowed to pressure you after April 15th if their classes start early.
