welcome to the forum! im glad you have seen the light and are joining us and our interest in ears... but of course we do more than that 🙂

as far as quitting your job, i only know of a few students who have had a side job while getting their Au.D. but there are also students who have families with young children and get their Au.D. - so doing 2 very demanding full time "jobs" is possible. i cant say i have any definitive info for you regarding which program would best suite you but i would encourage you to look up a list of existing programs (got this from a quick search and looks pretty extensive - http://www.audiologist.org/prospective-students/aud-programs.html) and start contacting programs within your state to find out if you can stay where you are.

knowing sign language is a bonus as is knowing any foreign language. if you also know/understand some of deaf culture, even better! i hope that you will have the chance to use and improve it in the future.

You may still be able to work some hours at your current position (and I know a few people on the forum said they kept a full-time job during their program), but you should know that 99.9% -- I won't say all because I don't know for sure -- of programs expect you to be full-time. As far as I know, there are no AuD programs which offer part-time study. Just take that into consideration.

If you can handle working as an SLP at the same time as you're in a full semester of courses, more power to you.

A 1st year student at UAMS is currently enrolled part-time in order to taper off of working and ease into the program. I have no idea if other programs do this, and if so, which special circumstances it would require.

2 AuD students that I know worked (many of ours worked part time waitressing or at the local theater but the ones Im talking about were more job jobs--no offense to anyone out there working those jobs). One was an audiology technician at a local hospital where she did all the re-screens on newborns (at this hospital they did the first screen with OAEs and then the re-screen, if needed, was with ABR). The other has her MA in psychology and worked as a counselor part time and is a single mom. So the short answer is yes...but it depends on the person...personally I couldnt, but thats not to say you couldnt. Only you know what you are capable of.

Best advise: research for some other career..:luck:

@oddballstar - its clear where you stand but can you please stop beating a dead horse. stating whats on your mind is fine but it would be much better received if it came from a place of positivity than derision.

that being said, im looking forward to mzbeauty's response to this thread thus far.

That's good to know! Every program I looked into mentioned specifically that all their AuD students must be full-time. So MZ, definitely check with the programs!

Is there a pill for denial that i can take .. may be Meijer or walmart sells it?😱

thank you everyone for your feedback...ive really been doing alot of research on Towson Univ, Univ of MD, and Montclair...after reading your comments ill probably have to quit my job(which is fine).😀

@oddballstar...i dont need to look for another career. i know what i want to do and that's audiology..and if thats the best advice you can give maybe next time you shouldnt give any at all..DONT BE A DREM KILLER👎..the question wasnt asking if i should change careers it was asking for more details on the career that ive chosen from people that might have experienced the same kind of thoughts before they started their programs..MOVING ON FROM THE IGNORANCE🙂
