Hey Everyone,
I havent been on the forums for quite sometime but I'd figure I'd like to see how everyone is doing getting ready for their first semester of Vet school. Currently on break here and getting ready to go into my second semester. Bleh! But anyway here to chat and to also answer any questions for those of you thinking of applying abroad particularly Australia!
Good luck hopefuls and Good luck 2014ers! The fun is just beginning!
:luck:

Do you like your choice? Have you ridden a kangaroo yet?

"My apartment is infested with koala bears. Cutest infestation ever! Way better than roaches. When I turn on the light, they all scatter, but I don't want them too ya know? I'm like hey, hold on fellows, let me hold one of you."

I love Murdoch. But I had quite a few issues getting used to australia. Ive pet quite a few kangaroos and koalas. Currently the house Im living in a house where large huntsman spiders roam. And we have no heat or air conditioning. Ive gone home for the break to experience central heating and air conditioning again. I dunno though. I love the school but me and australia really arent working out. Perhaps once my boyfriend moves over things will get better, if not I may be looking into transferring in the next year and a half or so.

holyyyy sh**** i just looked up the huntsman spider

"males can attain a legspan of 250–300 mm (9.8–11.8 in) " -wiki

AHHH i could never study in a room thinking that spider could be walkin around in my house or hiding in my clothes. id be sooo paranoid

Hey BlackKat its much worst when they jump! =D! But its cold now so I dont see as many but trust me they are scary when they come around.

You have got to be ***king ****ting me. No the hell way am I living anywhere near THAT...

I agree! I could never live with those things. I sleep with my mouth open!

I don't know if you guys have heard of coconut crabs, but they're even worse:

From the map on wikipedia it looks like they aren't quite in Australia, so you lucked out!

Damn, that's a big spider.

Read somewhere that you're never more than 8 feet away from a spider. There's something to ponder.

Hey Otakuvet, hang in there! My first six months in Australia were rough to say the least! It was better once my partner came over. Then in second semester third year I had another rough time. I'm at Murdoch by the way, in my 4th year. Just give it some time. Vet school is tough no matter where you are.

Yeah thanks for the encouragement MochaVet! The thing about the huntsman spiders in my house is simply my roomies find them outside my room or near my room. Something about them draws them to my room. Scary! But they actually are harmless. What scares me the most is that damn jumping spider. When the ****er jumps it jumps HIGH. So yeah it can be tiresome but fortunately its not so bad in the end. Im hoping once my boyfriend comes over that life will get better for me Mocha vet but as for now Im just coming home whenever we have long breaks like this to remind me of friends, internet, air conditioning and family. Oh and TV! =D

If the giantic pictures posted of giantic spiders weren't enough to freak me the hell out, I'm now glancing around in paranoia every two seconds. Major case of the heeby-jeebies right now :scared:

WTF?? That thing is scaaaaaaaaaary! Holy #@%^. Otaku...been wondering how you were doing and glad you checked in. Hang in there and I'm guessing once your SO gets there, life will be mucho better.

Well I'm pretty sure what gives that little statistic creedance is that you're often no more than 8 feet from a wall, where they either live, or live on the other side of.

But yes there's a spider right behind you, don't look! It's one of those stalker spiders.

Um, yeah, I could never live anywhere where spiders are that big. ever. ew! I freak out about daddy long legs! :scared:

I hope things improve for you as time goes on, Oatku! I am sure once your boyfriend gets there it will get better. I can't imagine not having my boyfriend around... especially when there are giant spiders to be saved from! 🙄

:barf:

Spiders are disgusting. They are not Gods creatures. They are pure, disgusting, multi-legged evil.

I think the coconut crabs are kind of cool, actually. Those spiders would require my cup-and-piece-of-paper-under-it rescue routine to turn into a bucket-and-piece-of-cardboard rescue, though, haha.

I personally don't like to squish bugs and prefer to cup them and bring them outside or just leave them be... but I dunno what I'd do with that. I wouldn't want it near me, and I wouldn't want to handle it. A spider that f***ing huge would be even more disgusting squished! gaaaahhh

Me too!

I'd trust my slightly insane cats to solve the problem, personally.

Just use something bigger than a chinese food container or tupperware bowl 😛

"I told you I'm not afraid of spiders!" taken from the camera that was promptly dropped following a shrill scream and thundering little feat going down the hallway.

Aw, c'mon now. They're not that bad.

I've got 3 tarantulas sharing my bedroom 😛
