Step 1 knock you out for gas?

Step 1 passed on second attempt- 186

Step 2CK passed on first attempt- 224

Step 2CS passed on first attempt

One A, four B's, one C in the third year core rotations

A's on two anesthesia electives

Im doing a prelim medicine year this year.

Do i have a shot?

Does anything 'knock you out' for gas? (Great pun by the way)

If we said yes would you just stay in IM or would you still try for anesthesia? Just apply far and wide, pass step 3 comfortably and get your license. I think you'd be surprised at what you can find.

Huh. Like Idio, I have no idea since most of us have never been in your position. Maybe someone who's been there and can share their story can give you a better idea. All you can do is try, apply widely, consider a back-up specialty, and see what happens.

i would double check with all the programs you apply to before applying. I had a friend in a similar situation last year. he failed step one, and had a 210-ish retake score. The rest of his app was good. Many programs state on their web pages that you must have passed USMLE steps on first attempt to be considered. My buddy applied to 60 programs, got 5 interviews (at crappy places), and did not match. now he's doing a surgery prelim. A failed step one is a real scarlet letter that won't ever go away. Still, you'll never know unless you try.
