Help Adding Final MD Schools

So it's not my first rodeo here on SDN. Basically, all I want is your guys' advice on adding 4 to 5 more schools to my MD list.

My basic stats:

• 503 MCAT (128/123/127/125).
• URM Hispanic.
• New Mexico resident. Attended undergrad at state school, NMSU.
• 3.87 cGPA.
• 3.86 sGPA.
• ~1200 clinical experience hours: 700 as a scribe, 500 shadowing (multiple specialties and locations).
• ~200 non-clinical volunteer hours: 120 as a senior living center volunteer, 30 as a tutor/premed advisor, 50 as a lab data collector (I also use this as my super weak "lab"/"research" experience).
• I've already taken the CASPer.

My current MD school list (i.e., ones I am getting ready to send/have already sent my secondaries to):

• UNM (actually haven't received a secondary yet. Have seen they get sent out in mid-August).
• Kaiser
• Seton Hall (no secondary yet, hoping to receive one)
• TCU and UNTHSC (again, no secondary yet)
• Loyola
• MCW
• Arizona-Tucson
• UTRGV

I already have my 12 DO schools ready to go. I just want to know what other MD schools I should add? I want to add 4 to 5 more other OOS-friendly low-tier or mid-tier schools. For example, on here, I have been recommended to look into applying to George Washington, Rush, Arizona (U of A; the higher-stat one), NYMC, and Creighton. I get my paycheck tomorrow, and would like to add these last several schools to my application so that I can hopefully get their secondaries sent in by mid-August, or before that unofficial "Labor Day deadline".

STOP shadowing NOW and do some nonclinical stuff like volunteer in a soup kitchen, homeless shelter, coach a sports team for disadvantaged kids, help at a camp for disabled kids etc.. Get out of your comfort zone and you can’t double count activities, or you shouldn’t. Do something now and keep,at it so you can update schools or can talk about it when/if you interview.

Appreciate that advice! But my “shadowing/clinical experience” was literally my job as a scribe. I’m still volunteering my time at the senior living center, and I’m also still tutoring and mentoring the local middle school and high school students. It should honestly be above 200 hours at this point - it was at 200 hours when I applied in June. I will be sending AMCAS an update email soon.

Appreciate that advice! But my “shadowing/clinical experience” was literally my job as a scribe. I’m still volunteering my time at the senior living center, and I’m also still tutoring and mentoring the local middle school and high school students. It should honestly be above 200 hours at this point - it was at 200 hours when I applied in June. I will be sending AMCAS an update email soon.

I don’t think you can update AMCAS. I think you have to update each school individually and not all schools accept updates. If you do update, make it worthwhile and impactful.

Obviously the 50 hours as a lab data collector was more appropriate as lab/research and not as nonclinical volunteer hours.

I don’t think you can update AMCAS. I think you have to update each school individually and not all schools accept updates. If you do update, make it worthwhile and impactful.

Obviously the 50 hours as a lab data collector was more appropriate as lab/research and not as nonclinical volunteer hours.

The 30 hours as a tutor/premed advisor will be treated as teaching, not volunteering to serve the underprivileged. You’re definitely only able to count the 120 senior home hours plus any updates.

1) My tutoring/advising were free of charge services where I wasn’t paid, so how exactly is that not volunteering?

2) My lab research experience was specifically listed as “volunteer research data collector”, so how is that not volunteering?

Teaching your peers and serving the underprivileged are considered two different things.

And your mentoring probably falls under a third category - leadership.

There are many threads on SDN discussing these distinctions.

OP seems pretty set on doing what they want and doesn’t seem open to our suggestions. Of course that’s just fine but...

Not really set on what I want to do - I literally cannot change anything on my applications. I was simply double checking with some definitions that might have cleared things up for you two. I appreciate your guys’ help, but was only trying to clarify. Thanks.
