Hi everyone!

I have my test August 9th, so a little over a week and I just took my first NBME and now feel horrible. Here are my scores:

UWSA 1: 235 (3 week before my test date)
NBME 6: 223 (1 week before my test date!)

I really wanted to break a 240...but unlike the geniuses on this forum, I don't think this will happen for me....

what should I be doing at this point, I really have lost all self confidence...is there any hope or should I kiss my dreams good bye?

PLEASE respond back and say something...any advice would be encouraging.......!!

go over the questions you missed in uw and keep going over FA, and no dont kiss your dream good bye

I am going to spend the next week doing exactly what you suggested.

but is it still possible to get a 240? I know no one can predict what will happen, but realistically its not likely right? This is what upsets me, even if i try hard this week, whats the point?!

like you said no one can predict what will happen so give it all you got, you may not get a 270 but 240 is definitely achievable, good luck

One more question....my score report from the NBME showed all my bars under the "higher performance category" except for 2 bars---so what I dont get is how I can still score so low considering that only two of teh subjects were in the average category?

the grading curve for the nbmes are very tight so dont worry about that, just keep working, the curve is more generous on the real thing

speaking of curves...is the curve on test day based on those who take it that day? or if they give the same exam to two different test groups on different days, is the overall curve from all test takers regardless of what day they took the test?

also, how long before they give back the test results?

---thanks a lot kryptic you have been really helpful.

not sure how the curve is created on the real one, but it sure is more generous than the nbmes because a 90% on nbme 7 gives you a score of ~250 but i am pretty sure if you get 90% on the real thing you will be well above 260. Scores normally arrive on the 3rd or 4th wednesday after your exam

So, I went over my NBME 6 and realized how many stupid mistakes I made...

Today, I took NBME 7 and for a 231, which I am much happier about, but nothing close to the 240 that I am striving to get on this exam.

Does anyone know how well the NBME 7 correlates to the actually score?

I have a few days before my test, if anyone has suggestions on what to do at this point (aside from FA) let me know please!!!!

I took NBME 7 seven days before my real exam and got a 231.

Scored 240+ on real exam. It is definitely possible. Just be confident and calm. Good luck
