I applied for last year's cycle and didn't get into the cali schools i wanted to.
i live near san luis obispo so i thought i'd take some classes while i study for the DAT again. my question is... how should i choose the classes i take? should i retake some classes that i didn't do so great on, or should i take classes that are recommended but aren't required that i haven't taken, i.e. anatomy, physiology? i was thinking of retaking some ochem classes i did terrible on but i wasn't sure what was the best way of approaching this. any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks.

I would say take new classes. I'm not sure the specific schools you are applying to but some say that "preference is given to those who show proficiency in...." and then they list classes like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, cell biology etc. Good luck.

I agree…

You can also call the schools that rejected you and ask them the same question. All admissions people I ever talked to offered to give guidance and answer questions like these to anyone. This way you can show schools now that you are serious for next year (also drop your name for next cycle) and then ace all the classes they recommend. That should look good when they look at your file this upcoming cycle and see the work you put in.

When I started my postbac I picked all upper division classes that were either prereqs, recommended courses, or similar courses taken during dental school.
