hmm, i'd say 3 if you think it's at least decent because physician letters often carry very little weight from some schools

Do not send more than the number requested!
Please don't send us a shadowing letter. I guess it is ok if you are applying to Utah, Chicago Med or the AZ schools...
DO schools do love a DO letter, though.

I believe they may count as the "clinical" letter that they request.

I understand that the shadowing letter probably doesn't add much, but would it be a mistake to send it to schools that accept more than 3 letters?

A shadowing letter, almost by definition, adds nothing to a application.
After a while we become resigned to them, though they are tedious to read...
