Hey everyone,

I have a huge dilemma and need someone's advise. I was accepted to BU on Dec. 1st but also have interviews at Nova and Tufts in the future. The problem is that my acceptance deposit is due Jan 14th and both my interviews are that same week. Pretty much I want to be able to see everywhere I have the opportunity to interview at but I wont know if I am accepted there until after my deposit to BU is due. What should I do and does anyone else have this problem??

Hey, I'm in the exact same situation. It is horrible. I was accepted at NYU, but have interviews lined up at Nova, Tufts, and UNLV. I feel that NYU will probably provide the best education and experience, but the price tag is quite steep. I feel your pain.

You should put the deposit down unless you like to gamble...

lols, I forgot to address the question. Definitely put down the deposit.

I too am in the same situation. I want to put down a deposit for BU but in case i don't end up going there, 3000$ is a lot of money. 😕

is $3000 enough to buy your happiness for the next 4 years? 😉
i would put down the deposit then go interview 😀 (i really shouldn't say this, because i am waiting for post-dec interviews, free up some spots brothers and sisters 😀)

what's your dat score sections? I thought you would have something by now

O, for some reason I thought you applied during summer. Good luck VCU, where'd you apply?

In a similar situation- accepted to BU and NYU, and still have interviews set up for UD, Tufts, Midwestern, and Case... I'm going to put down the money regardless. I live close to UD and Case so I'll probably still go to those... just have to decide if I want to spend the money on a plane ticket and hotel for midwestern and Tufts....

Definitely put down the deposit because even though $3000 is pretty significant... its a small amt compared to what we'll be paying for the next 4 years! (And I'm not a gambler.)

same situation where I have a michigan interview the week that the deposits are due. I'm still contemplating if it's worth the trip/$$$

Deposit your check in BU and go to your interviews. It is a small price to pay to see what else is out there, especially if you are trying to find a school that suits you for the next 4 years.

i bet this is why BU's deposit is so expensive

In the past, I think some schools, IF they haven't cashed your check, would just return your check or rip it up if you called. I think Columbia was one of them? But obviously, YMMV.

Jesus...$3000 deposit for BU? That's A LOT of money........

If you want to be a dentist, pay the damn $3000 deposit for BU. There are thousands of people who would love for you to not pay it so they have a chance at your slot. If for some reason you get into the other schools where you might feel it better suits you, then accept their acceptance and go there instead. Think of the $3000 as a guaranteed investment that will allow you the opportunity to make millions of dollars over your career. You would have to be very stupid or very self-assured that you would get accepted into one of the other schools not to pay the $3000 deposit.

Pay the $3000. I would have if I had been in your shoes. Luckily, I got all my acceptances on Dec 1, so I didn't have to worry.

what if you only got 3000 budget on deposits. Since the whole app cycle has robbed you of your savings?

then you go to BU or whatever school you put deposit in... and be happy we got accepted this round to a great school and do not have to apply and go through this next year....
and no, schools do not extend their deposit date...

Do not put down the deposit period...cuz many people still want to have a chance to interview there

PUt it down. There's no guarantee you'll get accepted to the schools you have interviews at later on. Why turn down something that's a guarantee? It's better to be safe than sorry ya know.

Put down the deposit... the numbers alone should tell you that... about 35% of dental applicants get accepted to a dental school, and the vast majority only get into one school. Plus, I've heard the stories about people who turned down an acceptance and ended up having to reapply 2 more times, never got accepted, and chose different careers. In the long run, $3000 isn't very much, especially compared to the cost of a dental education. It would be flat out stupid not to pay the deposit to guarantee you have a spot at a dental school this fall.
