Long story short, I took bio 2 at a community college near my house for financial reasons, but the university I'm transferring to won't accept the credits because we didn't cover evolution and plant diversity. Which means I'd have to retake bio 2 at the 4 year in order to take the upper level classes I need.

The 4 year said there's an appeal process but my professor didn't cover the topics, so I'm not sure what I'd send them. A friend suggested just making up slides or editing the syllabus but that feels dishonest to me.

If I end up having to take the class again, will med schools find this weird? Also, how would it count towards my gpa? Would they really count the same class twice? Sorry if these are dumb questions, I'm just stressing about it and not sure what to do. Any and all advice will be really appreciated!

1) No. You aren't the only one this has happened to.

2) You will be required to submit an original transcript from both schools. All grades earned will be included in your application GPA calculated by the rules of the med school application service, regardless of your university policy.

If you take the class again, it will show up twice since you have to submit all transcripts prior to matriculation.

If you have to retake it in order to take upper division classes at your new university, then that's just what you'll have to do. It sucks of course, but if that's what they are telling you then that's what needs to be done. Maybe take it over the summer so you can get it over with? It should be an easy A since you already know most of the material.

I took Bio 1 at community college before I transferred to a university as well but they accepted it as credit. Still, my premed advisor was trying to pressure me to retake it at the university because "it would look better" but I said absolutely not. Granted, I have a really amazing GPA so one CC prerequisite isn't going to look bad for me.

Count it as an easier grade, learn the additional material and jump through the hoops. I was surprised at interviewers what people noticed in applications. Only weird classes and ECs were ever mentioned. Not even my limited biology classes were ever mentioned.

Thanks for all of the feedback, pretty much confirms what I thought. I enrolled in a section for the summer as soon as I found out, just to be safe. I figured I'd end up having to take it again but was just wondering if there were any other options. Thanks again for all the advice! 🙂
