Hi, everyone. I really need you guys good advice. I am a pre-pharmacy student, and applying for the next year 2014. The thing is that I don't really have much volunteer experience and extracurriculum activities. I want to know that how much pharmacy schools care about those activities over GPA score and PCAT. (FYI: I am applying to only pharmacy schools in CA)
Please help me out!!!

Here is my info
GPA: 3.67 (Science GPA : 3.6)
B.S degree in physio

extracurriculum
only 6 months volunteer work at a local pharmacy
2 weeks of volunteer work at Cambodia
like 8 hrs at American red cross

GPA seems good for Cali schools. You can take PTCB test and apply to pharmacies to work.

I think it really depends on the school. I go to the University of Minnesota for undergrad currently, and I know the pharmacy school really likes to see a well-rounded student. If you have time this summer, try to get some shadowing experiences.

If you don't know where to start, try e-mailing an advisor for your pre-pharmacy club or a pre-pharmacy club at a nearby college. Even if you don't go to the school, people are pretty willing to help you. I visited some family in TN last year and e-mailed their pharmacy school and they set me up with a clinical pharmacist to shadow with. You would be amazed at all the different pharmacy settings that exist out there. I've shadowed a lot of unique ones ranging from home infusion pharmacy to a pharmacist working at a pet poison hotline. Also, this experiences are great to talk about in your personal statement and future interview.

I'm applying for Fall 2014, too. Good luck!

Definitely go the PTCB route! The only real way that I know of to get real hand-on experience in the pharmacy!
