I am needing to make some decisions, and I was wondering if anyone with IUSD knowledge could help me out!......

IU was my number one choice going into this, but after their interview compared to some other schools I interviewed at, IU did not seem that student friendly. I was at the school a total of 1 1/2 hours (quick tour plus interview). The faculty I was paired with seemed very disrespectful and rude, like they didn't really care. The fourth year dental student also seemed distant and completely uninterested. I know that it may just be the select few people that I was unlucky enough to get, but to those of you that know a bit more about the school, could you tell me if the majority of the faculty are friendly? Are they willing to answer student questions and do they put the students first?

Thank you for your help!

Im not most experienced person to answer your question, but on the day of my interview, everyone was very friendly, kind and considerate. Dr. Kasberg (assistant dean of student affairs) is a very cool guy to talk to and gives a lot of good information to students in need of help/guidance. Im sure he would be happy to answer any questions you have. You might have possibly just had a grumpy group. Idk, best of luck.

But anywho, If you decide on IU then I guess I'll be seein ya come July!

Had a similar experience and am choosing to go elsewhere.

Loved Dr. Kasberg, but everyone else at the school was a bit rude. My interview was especially terrible. They were grilling me with irrelevant questions like why did you choose the major you did, why didn't you score higher on the QR section... and so on. Also a few of the third years told me if I was accepted elsewhere go... So I took their advice

Well I was accepted to a few other schools and chose IU for several reasons. First off, I will be in the class of 2015 so I am certainly not the most experienced person to talk to about the school. However, I was presented with your situation a few months ago and did what I considered to be serious research on the matter, as 4 years and a dental degree is a huge deal ha. I am doing the HPSP so I looked at my options unbiased by tuition. I attempted to have email conversations with several 3rd and 4th year students from Indiana, Michigan, Case, and Louisville in order to make my decision. The people at Indiana in general, both the students and the staff, won me over by going above and beyond to answer my questions and work with me in making a decision. To me, a school is about the people and their ability to create an academic environment. What I got through my experience was that IU had that figured out a little better than the others. Not to discount the other schools, I mean this decision was incredibly hard. I felt IU had a more well rounded education, and although it may not be the easiest dental school, I felt that it would best prepare me to be a dentist.

It comes down to what you value most in a dental school, and if you were able to see that in the school or not. I'm honestly disappointed to hear that you didn't like the people at IU, but my experience has just been the complete opposite.

You can wait and ask me again what I think after the next four years for a better response to your question if you'd like ha

Until then, feel free to message me with any questions you have
