I just got a phone call from Dr. Quinn accepting me to USC. I have been preparing for going to wake forest for the past few weeks by filling out the forms and sending money for the background check (I had really dismissed the possibility of a keck acceptance). Now that i have it i need to make a decision and fast.

Please help with input.

if you have a chance to meet dr. drew, take it

Dr. Drew as in the MTV guy?

go with the cheapest option. if money's a push (prices being within 10% of one another), the go the Keck.

... even if you do have to be a Trojan. 😀

I can handle both: I've lived my entire life in big cities (seattle and Honolulu) but definately saw the advantages of the small town feeling in winston-salem.

Anyone have comments on the curriculum differences (any pluses or minuses)?

hmm I know Wake Is Honors, Pass, Low pass, and Fail...and honors is limited to top 15% at most...also wake has that clinic experience thing during 1st and 2nd years...not really sure what its called, wake also has videotaped lectures

You probably already knew this but just throwing it out there.

thanks chubbs, your advice is much appreciated

I've got a friend who just took his step 1 (he did well), and he liked the curriculum at WF. I have to imagine you'll spend more money at USC.

wake-tuition-37,134
residency score by directors-3.2
by peers-3.5
USC-42,690
by directors-3.3
by peers-3.5

So USC would end up costing you more than 20K for four years for tuition alone...and im sure probably 10K or more for cost of living..

USnews ranks them nearly equal in research and Wake Higher for primary care.

Thanks Phatib Unfortunately I live in the middle of the pacific ocean and a plane ticket to just LA is 600-800$. I think I got a good feel for the cultures of both and could mesh well with both.

I agree,
I was born and raised in CA, and I have also spent time in Hawaii, the south, and the east coast; all academic issues aside, each region is really different. I think LA would be much closer (and better in my opinion) to Hawaii than NC in terms of atmosphere. If you can, spend a few days just in the respective areas, you might get a better feel. But anyways, congrats on having to decide between two good schools!

ps. yeah Dr. Drew is the guy from celebrity rehab on VH1 and he used to be on loveline, and he is part of the USC faculty

Actually I found the "southern Hospitality" a little more similar to the local "aloha" than in LA . But Hey, anywhere I have never been is a new experience and is welcomed.

Just curious, why no U of Hawaii? Heard it's pretty good and students go surfing a lot haha.

if you ain't local, you can forget about getting in...

Why no U of Hawaii.. Funny thing based on my stats and those I know that were accepted already I am qualified to go there. Especially since I meet 6/7 residency requirements (you need 3) and am a grad student there who has been TAing their medical anatomy class. Its no skin off my back, after working there for two years and attending both my postbac and Masters degree there I seriously question the quality of the education at JABSOM. The new building really is just window-dressing on a failing institution.

To complicate things further I sent Wake a letter of intent like two days after the interview(2/23). Then got my interview invite at USC two days later (2/25). The LOI was written prior to even going to USC and So If I decide on USC do I run into a nasty situation with the LOI at Wake Forest?

My integrity is really important to me but so is my happiness with where I am over the next four years.

Yup only one LOI sent to wake none to USC

Anyone else have constructive input one way or another either on which school

For those of you watching this thread I've decided on USC and have just called Wake to let them know of my decision. Pac-10 alll the Way Baby!!!
