I am currently applied to MD programs with a 26 MCAT. I haven't heard back yet so I'm preparing for next cycle and obviously want to take the MCAT again. I'm torn between what date to take.

I'm leaning towards the July dates (so I have 4 months to prepare) but fear of not receiving the score until AUGUST 18TH scares me.

Should I aim for an earlier date like June, maybe even May, where my scores will be released before my app is complete?

WHAT SHOULD I DO?!

Honestly, I'm not sure if there are even any May spots left! It filled up super quickly, I know the five states around me filled up in about five hours. If you take it in July you'll get your score back in 3 weeks, but if you take it in May, it'll take more than 6 weeks to get your score back. So I'm taking it May 22 and won't get it until like the first week of July or so.

first thing you need to do is calm down

now, you have to ask yourself how much time you need to really prepare for the mcat and ensure that you can get a 30+. retaking a 26 and getting <30 again is not good.

my advice: start preparing for the MCAT now, but only take it when you're CONSISTENTLY getting 30+ on official practice exams. if this ends up taking you until july or later, so be it--you can always apply as a stronger candidate next year.

alternatively, you can just apply to a bunch of DO schools, in which case your mcat is fine, and, assuming your gpa is decent, youre bound to get in somewhere

I'm already registered for the May 22nd date. May 22 score release is June 30 and July 17 score release is August 18, it's on the website

thank you thats good advice. I just want to make sure I'm not at a huge disadvantage taking the May vs. July MCAT.

I'm looking to register for my MCAT some time in early August. The registration dates have not been decided yet, does anyone have any information from previous years so I can have a date in mind for when to check the AAMC site?
