i have done not at all bad and not at all good(mean my result is 50-50)did you not do well in MCAT? hence this question ..... just wondering
Unfortunately there is a stigma with this whole process that there is a certain amount of runoff from Pre-Med students who can't make it into medical school or do poorly on their MCATs--that decide "Oh I think I will do dentistry! It's easier to get in!"
For me, Medicine was never an option so I could not accurately compare the "scope" of that profession against Dentistry. What I can say is that you need to do your research about what really interests you about both professions and come to your own conclusions.
People in this forum are pretty serious about their life choices and they have a tendency to bite off the heads of people who are sitting on the fence between these 2 very different fields. Good luck with your decision.

i can get into the med-college but that wud be a bit difficult.as compared to med i can easily get into dentistry so my siblings r forcing me to take dental cause according to them its a comparatively easy field with a good scope.
i my self like med coz i like forensic medicine n in that i can only get into if i opt for med not for dental.yes u r rite its easy n thats y am forced to do it.

hey guys you didn't get me.what i was saying that i am confused in selecting my field.either should i go for dentistry or for medical?
yup black-wall you are right that dentistry is not an easy field but not as compared to medical.
n by scope i meant that more people are going for dentistry.
all my doc.siblings are in favor of dentistry for me.but lets see where i get admission.
buddies, thanks alot for your sincere replies
.
Stay pre-med. if allopathic schools are too hard for you to get into do a DO. you said you're interested in the forensic part of medicine so i find it difficult to believe that you would seriously be interested in dentistry
also sorry if this is rude, but i really hope you speak better than you type because if not no matter what you get into your patients wont be able to understand you
ummm.....right!!....way harder...i could coast into med school (not that i want to or ever would)....dental is super hard because of guys like this.....i say stay on your med path and stop making dental school so hard to get intoDental school is not easier than med school to get into. Sigh.
before giving MCAT i wasn't confused, because by that time i only aimed for med and not for dental, but after my MCAT result i was confused B/W med and dentistry.i couldn't decide whether to go for dentistry or med.but after getting your remarks i think i must apply for both, but even then i would prefer med and I'll try to get into it by hooks or by crooks. If you're worried about getting into med school due to your MCAT and you're 50/50 apply to DO (doctor of osteopathic) medical schools. You'll be a doctor just the same in the end. You started off wanting to be a medical doctor for a reason, dont sell out b/c you're boarder line.
As far as scope - medical doctors have more. Apply to both MD and DO and become a medical doctor.
It's not your typing as much as your english.

yes you are very right.i take your words and will do the same as you said.because before jumping into a field i should have a know-how of that field.yes these times makes us really impatient.Shadow and see for yourself. Find your phonebook and start calling dentists (even your own personal dentist) in your local area that are willing to let you shadow for a day or two. See if this is something you really want...don't jump ship just yet...I was once in your shoes and times like this takes determination, understanding, and patience. It's never a bad thing to be open-minded.
i am getting baffled now.huh?Lol i go soo good at this based on writing i can tell where a person is from lol...
anyways you must be desi, which equates to family pressure...
1. just shadow so you can come up with a good reason for why dentistry.
2. you are not gonna get any good info b/c the way that you have started this thread offends couple people here.
3. do your own research there is plenty of info on the internet and try to find out why... b/c most people here will only give you BS of why not med and how Dentistry is compared to med etc... all bs... just go DO YOU OWN RESEARCH
THEN Choose your own field.
my siblings are all med doctors so if i go into dentistry then it would be a change.n the most valid reason is that i hardly can get admission into med.ps, i wouldnt ever bring up to anybody that you are looking into dentistry because your family wants you to.

The MCAT i am talking about is of a good university,so thats why i am depressed, becoz i want to get into it.otherwise there are alot of universities and i can get admission into any one of them. The thing is not about getting admission into a med college but about the university i want to get into.I doubt you will get into dentistry either with that attitude.
(Can I put down feeding troll as a community service hour?)

that is a very genuine reason indeed.yes i would be a doctor but still i wouldn't be called as a graduate of that university.any ways the time will tell where my fate leads me to,because the merit list is not issued yet.so i cant say anything that either would i get admission into it or not.and why i am confused in B/W dentistry and med is b/c i can get admission in dentistry in that top university. Why apply to both dentistry and medicine when you don't even know if dentistry is for you? You seem to be more interested in medicine, so if you didn't perform as well as you would have liked on the MCAT, you don't necessarily have to start looking into other careers, but study and re-take the MCAT. It doesn't matter if you don't get into your top university, you'll still become a medical doctor.

i am 90% sure that i will not get admission into med and i am 10% unsure b/c merit list is not issued yet.So you know for a fact that if you applied to that dental school you would 100% get in?
lol.i will try to let go my ego and turn my aim to medical🙂Lets be realistic here. Who applies to just one medical or dental school? You could have the best scores and not get into your number one choice, that's called life. Thats why people apply to multiple schools. If you are serious about medicine, and you claim to have the grades and scores needed to get into A medical school, then why not focus on just medicine? Dont let your ego take over here, many people people don't get into their top choice school, they end up pursuing thier goal and still become doctors or dentists. Many of them end up being very happy with their decision.

In our country we don't have to give the DAT.here merit of medical-school is high than dentistry.so first the admission in med proceeds and then come the dentistry, where merit is not as high as med.but for the son or daughter of dean there are floating seats which are not included with that of legal seats on which the students having high score are selected.so my surety or unsureness was based on the merit. It seems like you just pulled those numbers out of nowhere. There is no guarantee for admission at any health-profession school, and unless you're the son or daughter of the dean of admissions, you can never be 90% sure you'll get into that dental school, especially when you have no dental experience and haven't even taken the DAT.
