I have 23 weeks before I apply to various post bac programs. I've just begun volunteering at a Hospice (care-giver relief) and also volunteering in a hosptial. I'll be taking science courses throughout this time to prep.

With this, I feel as if I'm making progress but through the fog. I'm having troulbe seeing the sequence of how this unfolds, if you get me.

I was wondering if:

1) Someone might refer me to a counselor here in San Diego. I was thinking of appraching the Pre-Med advisor at SDSU and trying to steal some of her insight. Thoughts?

2) Someone might tell me exactly what to do, haha

Thanks guys,
Hume

Not quite sure what you're missing here. It sounds like you've got a handle on things:

- You're volunteering now to build up your extracurriculars

- In 23 weeks (or earlier), you apply to postbac programs. There are a couple of kinds and vary in length of enrollment, cost, etc.:

Informal postbac-premed: take whatever prereqs you have yet to take (best if you've taken most but not all of the prereqs)
Formal postbac-premed: take all (or almost all) prereqs. If this is the type you're applying for, unless you're auditing classes now, you probably shouldn't take prereqs prior to enrollment because you'll just have to retake them, and send transcripts to AMCAS for both
Formal SMP: take upper-level science courses and medical school classes (best if you've already taken prereqs but need to boost your GPA)

- After the postbac, which should end just prior to the summer, you begin the med school application process through AMCAS and study for the MCAT

- Take the MCAT in July (or very early August) to complete your application

- Hope for the best
