Hi everyone,
I'm an IMG here. 4 years out of med school, clinically active the entire time. Stats are 27x CK, Step 3 is soon, 6 months of USCE + Research Fellowship starting next week.
Appling Psych. I have two realy good letters for sure ( 1) Research Fellowship PI ( worked remotely with him) + 2) Ivy League elective, which I am going to use.)
The others are as follows :
1) 8 week observership at Great Public University - Attending showed me LOR. Nothing WOW but a solid 8. 2024 dated
2) 8 week Observership at same univeristy - from my mentor there who is an average writer. man of very few words. 2024 dated
3) Home Country Doctor who I have worked with for 3+ years and LOVES me. This will be the best letter ever, but not from the Anglosphere. I want to use it irrespective. This guys board certified in IM and Neuro and I worked in the IM, ED and Psychiatry department at the hospital he is Director of. Rotational job, but he was basically the 'boss' of the hospital.
4) Observership at State University, attending likes me I wrote a case report + did well but known for writing too many letters , and NOT a good writer.
5) Observership Community Hospital Attending . Had a lot of hands on experience here, really was in my element, functioned at the level of a resident. He said I was perhaps even better than the interns 🙂 In my eval. Problem is, he's ghosting now. Still on him.
Out of these 5, I'm leaning towards 3 and 5.
This will make my mix 3 US + 1 home country. Is it okay to use the home country letter. Of the 3 US, one will be research, 2 will be Clinical. Of those 2 clinical, one is University and the other community.
Thoughts on this? Should I use the home country letter? Or use all 4 USA. Any advice would be appreciated. The home country letter will be nothing short of stellar. The US attendings do not know me as well and will likely be positive but not 'glowing'.
