Any recommendations on a specific Navy AEGD location? I am applying now and can’t decide where I want to go. If anyone knows anything about a specific program I’d be interested.

Right now I’m only working with the information contained on this webpage: http://www.bethesda.med.navy.mil/Careers/Postgraduate_Dental_School/AEGD_1_Yr/

Also, I need some advice on a personal matter. A best friend from college is getting married right after I start my military experience (wedding in August). I graduate in May and then am planning to go directly to OIS followed by whatever assignment I am given. She’s asked me to be in the wedding and I REALLY want to be with her on her wedding day. She is getting married on a Saturday. I am not opposed to flying red eye on Friday night/Saturday morning. So, the question is: how likely is it that I will be able to make it to the wedding? Is having a Saturday off standard or not? Would it be inappropriate to contact someone where I am assigned to ask how I can have that day off before I even arrive? Any input would be appreciated. I know it would be so much easier to just tell her I can't be in the wedding but I REALLY want to be there!

You will be able to go. You have your weekends off unless you have duty...even if you unluckily are scheduled for duty, I am sure you can switch with a fellow resident. In my AEGD last year we stood duty twice a month and most months had at least one Sat or sunday. If you realyl want to make sure you don;t get stuck on duty put in a leave chit when when you arrive.

Ok to be honest I was way too lazy to read all of the descriptions, but I would pick the one in San Diego on 32nd street. I would choose this because SD is a great place to be / I used to live there. I will actually read the descriptions in a few years when i have to choose, but I would go with SD at this point

I am applying to a Navy AEGD right now. My choices were

1)Okinawa
2)Camp Pendleton (San Diego)
3)San Diego

I understand that Okinawa was not open last year due to disinterest, but I want to go there because I understand that it's Japan's Hawaii. My wife also lived in Japan a few years and wants me to experience it.

I then chose both San Diego options because everyone tells me that southern California has perfect weather and living next to Mexico could be fun. I didn't want to go to the east coast because I'm from the east coast. I didn't join the Navy to stay at home.

I didn't chose Great Lakes because I'm going to school in Cleveland, OH and I'm sick of snow.

Good luck!

I thought the Navy had an AEGD program in Pensacola, FL? In fact, I remember my recruiter telling me that they were planning on expanding the AEGD to 10-11 sites. Can anyone confirm this?

Tooth where did you end up assigned for you AEGD? And what did you think about that location overall? Thanks.

Okay, as I understand it, if you get selected to go to a Marine AEGD it's typically 3 year orders. I.e. LeJeune, Pendleton are 1 year in the AEGD followed by 2 years at the same base.

Are there any other Marine AEGDs? Great Lakes Blue or Green side?

Also, what if you go to a Blue Side AEGD? Can you still get a Green side billet afterwards? And if so are the orders(in terms of length) typically any different than a blue side billet?

Thanks.
