Hey Guys and Girls I could really use some input
So I got into 1 medical school: UCLA Charles Drew
and two post bac programs that offer automatic admission, Wake Forest and Albert Einstein medical school. The problem is my head, heart, and wallet are leading me in three different directions. What would you all do?

Easy decision, I think: go to Charles Drew. It's a great program. If you're sure that the "guarantee" is a real, 100% guarantee to the other med schools after post-bac, then go where you think you'll be happier, but until I see an official medical school acceptance on paper, I'm skeptical. 🙂

Just my two cents.

Yeah, I'm skeptical of the "guarantees" as well. I mean, even if they're for real, the automatic admissions are probably still contingent on you busting your butt for a year to get great grades.

I say save the time, energy, and money you would spend doing a year of needless post-bac work for the important stuff: studying to be a doctor. Go to Charles Drew.

my 2 cents: you want to become a doctor right? then theres no decision to make here, go to drew. its medical school right now instead of having to waste a year in a postbacc. i got accepted to the postbacc at ohio state that also gaurantees you acceptance. but if i had been accepted into drew or any other medical school i would go to that medical school in a heart beat!!!!

Seriously, people underestimate the value of earning an acceptance to medical school.

I hope that you're kidding. 🙄

If you've already received an acceptance to a medical school, which is what everyone wants and hopes for, then I don't know what is going on with you. Have you thought about the fact that you are still going to come out of the other medical schools with an average debt of 100K unless you happen to get a full ride?

Also, have you considered what the other ad coms will think of you when they ask you if you have ever been accepted to medical school? FYI, many of these linkage programs still require you to achieve a certain score on the MCAT and perform well in the interview process, so it's not a sure thing.

Go to UCLA.

Screw these other nay-sayers. I say go to the post-bac so you can get into a medical school that you want to go to. There is a major and fundamental differences between medical schools, especially those that are ranked close to each other.

It's not like you're giving up a gauranteed acceptance for something that is less definite...

Thanks for the replies everyone. My issue is that it isn't UCLA David Geffen it's the Drew program. With all the problems going on with the program I get nervous accepting the offer when I could spend a year and go to Wake Forest or Albert Einstein. Each program offers admission as long as I keep a 3.0 in my courses which (knock on wood) won't be a problem. I am from CA and love it here, but did my undergrad at NYU. Do you think Wake Forest can offer the same opportunities as schools in CA or New York?

some people may say it doesnt matter that you did post-bacc, but its one year that you could already have completed 1st year and be ready to enter 2nd. drew/ucla is still recognized program, even though wake and einstein (in the bronx?) are well-known too.

this time next year, do you want to be saying you are a rising 2nd year or a rising 1st year? people are really busting their ass and exhausting all of their options to get into med school or something leading to med school and you have mad options! go to the drew and get started!!

my two cents
good luck
