I am a Mexican-American, so on the AMCAS I filled out the "ethnicity" portion appropriately. However, how do I fill out the "race" portion? I do not consider myself to be black, asian, american indian, native hawaiin, or white. So do I simply leave the "race" blank and only leave the ethnicity listed appropriately as "mexican American"?

Look at page 30 of the support document. You will see that:
  • The information that you designate is "optional".
  • Your designations are "self"-designations.
  • Indicate what is most appropriate for yourself.
  • Don't designate anything that doesn't "fit" you.

Race isn't a big deal and you won't get any "lost" or "brownie" points for designating or not-designating a race. In short, you have an ethnicity and then you can designate or not designate anything that you want.
