I have no idea what I want to do. I hope some of you will give me some insight. I just graduated, passed my boards (what a relief!), and I am currently waiting for my license now.

I currently have several work options. Here they are:

1) Public Health: Two public health positions have been offered to me.

Rural town (2 hrs from my family and friends)
Population: 10,000
Salary is $90,000 + Loan Repayment ($25,000) each yr. for 5 days a wk.
Contract: 2 yrs
Malpractice, Licensure Fees, and Health Insurance included
*Do all kinds of dentistry--Restorative, Prosthodontics, Endo, etc.; Other dentist has only been out of school for 1 yr

Big City near family and friends
Salary: $80k-85k for 4 days a wk
Contract: 1 Yr
Too late to apply for loan repayment but elgible for next year
Malpractice, licensure fees, health insurance, life insur, disability included (or they will give me money if I have these insurances already)
*Basic Care: Restorative, Cleanings, Simple endo, no pros. (very basic dental care); 3 other dentists work there

2) Contractor working at Military Site (2 areas have eeen offered to me) working alongside military dentists

One site
Salary: $99,000 for 5 days a week
No contract--can stay as long as I want or transfer to a different site
All benefits included like above except disability insurance
Will pay for moving expenses
* Basically a fill and drill place

Second Site
Same as above
Salary: $95,000
*Fill and Drill place

3) Private Practice (2 places I am also considering)

Big City near family and friends
Associateship then partnership down the road
Pay: 35% of my production
* Hoping to expand place; he wants me to do my own cleanings first; and work Saturdays; Doc does all types of dentistry except ortho and implants; Really into endo

Big City near family and friends
Associateship then partnership
Don't know dentist production just yet (easily over $1 mil)
Pay: Base pay or 36% of production (he'll give me whatever is more)
* Hoping to build a place up north of the city down the road; he does all types of dentistry there--implant placements, all endo, all oral surgery cases, all perio/graft surgery; simple ortho; Has Cerec; Do amalgams but not too many (not too sure about this, though)
This guy knows I don't know too much about implants, cerec, etc; but he is willing to teach me and mentor me

I know I have a lot of choices. I am leaning towards the public health and the private practice. With Public Health, I can build my speed and sharpen my skills. With private practice (the 2nd one), I can learn a lot from the doc.
I know this is alot of info. Just wondering what you guys think.

Wow -- congrats on a lot of options!

If I were you, I would post this message on dentaltown.com. The dentists at that website are plentiful, and they are never shy about giving advice.

congradulations on the offers.

I would go with the second one in #3. It sounds like it would give to time to find yourself in what you like and learn a lot..... And, you can become a partner down the line if you like it. Good luck

I would also go with the last option. That almost sounds like a good gpr but with good pay. Good luck with whatever you decide.
