I am going to the Dominican Republic with UF's med school next week. I used to work with one of the physicians directing it, and that's how i got in. I have been waiting for a year. I have my ticket, all my travel stuff, i'm even taking malaria meds (which mess up your stomach)

let me preface this by saying I have been accepted into FSU and USF. I prefer USF out of the 2. I thought I would not be able to get an interview at UF.

I also graduated from UF... so obviously have a soft spot in my heart for it... Go Gators!!

Robin from UF admissions called me today to offer me an interview... ON MARCH 14th!!! When I am out of the country!!!

And guess what... it is there last interview date. I told her what I was doing and she said that was unfortunate. She said I MAY possible be able to interview on March 7th.. if someone drops out.... (so if anyone on here wants to drop out, please do 🙂)

which isn't likely to happen.

what do i do???? 😕

ahh

It sounds like you really want to have a shot at UF, or you wouldn't have started this post. I say go ahead and do what you have to do to withdraw from the trip. This is your only shot at UF and if you really want it you should try. There will be plenty more opportunities to go on medical relief trips.

When I got my interview at Oklahoma and it didn't fit in my schedule, the lady in the adcom office said the other dates were full, but she called other applicants interviewing on the other day, told them my situation, and one agreed to switch. Maybe see if she could do that?

There's no way they could try to squeeze you in on the 7th?

I mean, jeez, first they gave you no notice and they expect you to drop all that $$ and time spent preparing for the trip that happens to be with UF folks? Talk about ironic.

What are the dates of your trip? Is there any way you could leave early and then get back in time for the interview on the 14th? Also, I don't know anything about UF - is this an interview for acceptance or waitlist?

Win-win situation would be you call her back and ask her please if there is anyway they can squeeze you in on the 7th in case someone doesn't show up. Just say you'll be there ready and waiting. If someone is late or doesn't show up, maybe they'll take pity on you and fit you in to their schedule. You will do the 14th if they can't fit you in on the 7th due to a no-show, but due to the time spent preparing for the trip with the UF doc and med school (not to mention the money spent that I doubt you'd get back), the 14th really would be an inopportune time.

EDIT: I like what the other poster said - maybe she can find someone willing to switch dates with you. Honestly, if UF med school admissions isn't willing to work with you due to an international medical UF trip, that's just plain sad.

I called back and accepted the interview....

I don't know if that's what I should have done.

Two of the physicians that I look up to most... both from UF, coincedentally... one who is the coordinator for the medical mission trip, both told me I should accept the interview.

This is a terrible decision...

I don't even know if I will like UF the most out of the three schools... but, I mean, it's UF.

I wish I would have read this thread before I called back and accepted because I should have asked if she would call someone and ask if they would switch... but who wants to switch to the last interview date?

AND I just called her and accepted, so I feel like I would be bothering her.

Is UF even still accepting? Or are they just wait-listing, because that is a good point.

Congrats on the interview. I'm a little jealous...I got my rejection yesterday🙁
You definitely made the right decision to take the interview. You may find that UF is not the school for you, but it is a great school, and this is such a huge decision...it's important to consider all of your options.

Just wanted to let you know that, while I don't know if earlier interviewers are at any kind of advantage, UF says that they hold spots open until the last interviews are finished so that everyone who interviews has a chance to get in. So you shouldn't be interviewing for a waitlist spot. Good luck.

You mde the right move for sure. UF is awesome.

Which antimalarial were you on? I did doxycycline for my last trip without any problems and plan on using it again when I go to Belize in May.
