I am currently an engineering student, and looking at my school's course catalog, I noticed they have a weird system. Physics I and II and Calculus I and II are 4 credits each, but physics lab is 1.5 credits. General chemistry is 3 credits, and instead of a "general chemistry II", we have to take a 3 credit intro to P.Chem. Chemistry lab is 1.5 credits. Organic chemistry I is 3 credits, but orgo II is 2 credits, as is organic lab. Bio I and II are nonconsecutive (Bio I in the spring, Bio II in the fall), and they are each 3 credits with an integrated lab (no separate lab courses). There are tissue engineering and neurophysiology courses with integrated lab courses as well. My question is, would this system affect my applications even though I still have at least 1 year in each of the premed requirements?

Hah, I thought this was gonna be about an ACTUAL weird credit system. My first school was such that each course was worth one credit, and each lab was work 0.25 credits. I took a year of gen chem and physics there. It looks like I took like 9/17ths of a semester of each. I just entered the information as it was, adjusting it where necessary (like where decimals weren't allowed in data fields) in intuitive ways. Never had a problem, got into med school and all that. Don't worry.

Woah now that's a weird system! That relieves me a little...but what about my Bio courses? It's an exclusively engineering school, so the bio program is basically an afterthought just thrown in for logistics or whatnot. Would the fact that there's no separate bio lab be a problem? We basically do it the same way we did AP Bio- a lab every 4 weeks during lecture

[asked a question...]

Sorry...don't mean to threadjack...just curious and it seems relevant to your thread.

AMCAS generally knows the credit system of each school and will do its own conversions. Don't worry about this.

My school also had weird credits, and I was instructed to enter everything exactly as it is on my transcript and AMCAS would work it out.

Sweet...Thanks!

Your avatar makes me extremely sad every time I see it. I bet you did that on purpose!

Why sad? I think it's pretty funny, myself. I'm about as far from a vegetarian as it's possible to get. It's probably time to change the avatar though, I just was never able to find a good one.

Then take comfort in the fact that it's a toy cow and toy cheeseburger, I guess? 😉

(inb4animalrightsflamewar, this is an internet forum after all)
