I have 2 attempts in my step 1, but I passed on my 3rd attempt and finished step 2 CK and CS in the first attempt. Currently pursuing MPH at one of the best programs nationally and part of multiple research projects. My specialty of interest is Pathology and plan to apply this September. I'm also prepping for step 3 now.

I was wondering if anyone can give me some helpful suggestions on how to address my step 1 attempts in the personal statement.

Thanks in advance.

My opinion is to make it brief - explain what happened, what you learned from the situation, and how you are stronger/better because of it if you can. But don’t dwell or make it the focus of your essay.

Let’s see what others think.

Nobody likes path so you should be fine.

I would try to find out which places don't care about multiple attempts and apply there.

I am an img.
This is a game changer... an IMG with 2 failed attempts at Step 1, this drastically changes your odds.

I would consider your odds close to 0 of matching any field anywhere. Many IMGs need to be better than USMDs even to get the least desirable specialties and locations. I can't see any program in the US being willing to take an IMG with 2 failed attempts at Step 1. I would not recommend wasting 1000s of $$$ and a year of your life applying for residencies in the US. I know it's not what you want to hear, but being an IMG with failed Step 1 attempts changes everything.

EDIT: Is there any hope that your MPH institution likes you and would take you on as a resident? This may be your only shot.

Thank you for the "positive comments", and like you said its definitely not what I want to hear, and it's not the first time I have heard it.
But I believe there's no harm in giving my best one time. **** happened to me like it happens to all people, I can take the easy route and give up on my dream, but I guess my desire to reach my goal does not want me to give up.

Anyways, I would really appreciate it if any of you had any advice on my actual question which was, how to address attempts on the personal statement. Thank you

I wouldn't dwell too much on it. The more you explain the worst it looks. There really isn't any excuse in failing step twice. Roll your dice and let the chips fall.
