I'm looking for guidance. Hopefully someone out there can help. It will only take a few minutes for you to respond, so thanks.

I got my MA in Counseling Psychology from Lewis University which is a private non-for profit Catholic school. It was a good program. I did not stay in the field after internship because I got a good job working in IT as a network administrator.

Now I want to go back and get a doctorate. I suppose I want to do the PsyD. But, honestly, I'm not going to go back to school for another 4-5 years. I already have my MA.

What schools take the MA into consideration? Should I look into and EdD?

I checked out Argosy and it's only 60 hours for the EdD. But, some people say "stay away, it sucks" etc. - I'm nervous. Any guidance. Anyone?

Thanks so much everyone!

If you are willing to move, I would consider applying to a PhD in Counseling Psychology. Most CP programs require you to already have completed a Master's degree before applying (your Master's and PhD come from different schools). There are only about 70 or 80 counseling psych programs and they are all attached to comprehensive universities.

Most Clinical psychology programs admit students directly from an undergraduate program and then they get a Master's degree while completing their PhD program (your Master's and PhD come from the same school). Again, most all are attached to comprehensive universities, although some are offered by for profit stand alone universities. EdD programs will get you licensed but have less emphasis on the clinical aspect as they are obviously focused on education. Most EdDs I know are school psychologists, but that certainly varies across states.

From an economic perspective, think very seriously about the cost of going to a PsyD program. They are mostly for profit schools and will therefore charge a great deal of money to attend their school. I have heard 100K+ and you still need to pay for your living expenses. PhD programs, while admissions are much more competitive, usually will waive tuition and provide you a monthly stipend.

There is an extensive thread on the site regarding the pros/cons of both PhD and PsyD programs.
