Hello my fellow SDNers. I know that these topics have been done plenty of times before but I have seen some that have rather helped out immensely. I hope that this turns out the same. I am really fighting between these two schools. Any input or further information would be gladly appreciated. I am trying to focus on the programs as opposed to location. I know, I know....Charleston has the beaches and everything. I am getting the feeling that MUSC has a better didactic curriculum and UT has a better clinical program. I would love for those with affiliations with the aformentioned to respond. Please do not bash any schools, but if you have general concerns by all means address them. You never no, this may help someone else down the line. Until then.... Thanks a lot!!

From what I remember, you are a TN resident?

The difference between the schools is marginal so go with UT since its cheaper.

Tennessee has better college football. All signs point to "Rocky Top Tennessee!"

(And all you Gamecock and Clemson fans know it.)

you can't get free tickets to UT football games if you goto UT-Mem unless you are doing a rotation in Knoxville. Memphis is also a 6 hour drive from Knoxville. Ole Miss is much closer.

No, I am not a TN resident. I am actually from GA.

Its a tough decision then. I once asked a friend at UT-Mem about OOS at the school, he said that he didn't know any of them and that they'd be crazy to spend all the money you have to spend OOS to go there. (Granted this was in the middle of M2, which seemed to be pretty ****ty, making him bitter about med school).

Thought I might give this thread a little bump. Any other suggestions? If so, I would love to hear!!!

MUSC also heavily favors in-state, so there probably isn't much difference on that front between the two.

Yeah, both schools only have a few students coming in from OOS. I was definitely lucky and humbled to be accepted to both. What do you think? The school with better curriculum, more expensive vs. school with better clinical training, cheaper?

I don't have any first-hand knowledge of either school, but my dad studied MUSC and he absolutely loved it...granted this was 30 years ago.

How much is the money difference? If it's only $5 or so per year, I'd throw that out as a factor. If it's more than $20k/year, I'd place that in as a big factor. I doubt that curricular differences are a big deal between either school, so I'd probably make the decision more on feel, location and money. :luck:

Thank you so very much for the reply. Actually, the money difference is about 35K.
