2025-2026 U South Carolina - Greenville Secondary Essay Prompts (essay 1 has changed)

Essay Question 1: At USCSOM Greenville, Lifestyle Medicine is integrated into all four years of our curriculum. Please share how you envision lifestyle medicine affecting your time as a medical student and as a practicing physician.

Essay Question 2: Caring for under-resourced and underserved communities is critical to the mission of our medical school and in best meeting the health needs of the most vulnerable patient populations. Please provide personal examples of how you have demonstrated your commitment to supporting these communities, and what you have learned about providing quality care in this process.
Additional short questions in addition to the 2 required essays above:

• Did you apply to any MD or DO program during any previous academic year?
• What have you engaged in and/or accomplished to strengthen your candidacy?
• If you are not accepted to medical school for the 2026 entering class, what are your plans?
• Please briefly describe circumstances regarding any courses with a grade less than a B minus, or any course withdrawals. Additionally, please describe the circumstances if you took any required courses as Pass/Fail rather than graded.
• If you are currently participating in an academic program, please outline intended coursework for the academic year. (If not applicable, please write N/A).
• If you are not currently enrolled in an academic program for this year, do not expect to spend this academic year in school, please explain how you intend to use this time. (If not applicable, please write N/A)
• Please indicate whether you graduated (or are on track to graduate) as a member of your undergraduate institution’s Honors College.

Describe the specific experiences that have influenced your decision to pursue this program and demonstrate your commitment to Family Medicine. I am working on my USC Greenville's secondary and came across this question: Describe your employment status since you completed your bachelor's degree (part-time, full-time, and dates). (Max character limit 2500)

I graduated 6 months ago, but I have been working and found a new job to fill my gap year. Is it fine if this is barely 500 characters? I don't have much to say because most of it is already mentioned in my app, and the new job I haven't started just want to show I am still committed even after applying.
