Hi all,

So, full disclosure I am on the verge of a breakdown because the physics department at my school refuses to make any compromises to allow me to take Physics 101 next fall (long story). I could try to take Calculus Based but I have no background in calculus and I'm still not sure they would allow me to take it. It seems like my only option would be to take it through a local CC over the summer. However, it is an online class that includes a lab component, but I am worried it may throw a wrench in my plans and force me to delay my graduation and application to medical school because it is an online course, particularly one at a CC. Any thoughts? I apologize for asking this, I am just really lost as to options and dont know what to do

Thanks

Under normal circumstances, I know many schools would not accept online credit for a prereq, especially one taken at a CC. However, given that this cycle will be anything but normal, I'm sure online credit will be accepted. I'm not sure how much adcoms will care about it being taken at a CC, but normally, adcoms don't even blink an eye. I'm sure with the current situation, online CC will be accepted.

First, speak with the department chair about taking the physics course during the fall. S/he can probably arrange an independent study course which will solve your issue.

Go ahead and take the course at a community college. You will be fine since everyone else is in a similar situation.

The physics department head at my school was really rude and unhelpful throughout the whole process. My local CC also won't accept me into their physics program because I don't have the proper math course. I finally was able to register for an online course at a school in my system that has lab and is this summer. Since it is in my university system (just at a diff school) it is basically guaranteed to transfer as Phy 101. This whole process has been super stressful, but I'm just glad I was able to sign up for Physics somewhere. Thank you for your help, however, I had no idea whether CC/online would still be acceptable prior to this. I really appreciate it!

I am glad you resolved the issue. Hopefully, getting into Physics 2 will not be as difficult.
